- MLB and commissioner Rob Manfred conducted a conference call with all 30 MLB teams and they agreed to push back opening day. It is not yet clear how far back it will be pushed, but the CDC advised restricting events of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks.
- Manfred reportedly said “We are not going to start on April 9,” per Derrick Goold.
- Similarly, MLB is presently advising teams to “avoid all activities in which players congregate in significant numbers or are otherwise unable to practice the ‘social distancing’ protocols recommended by the CDC.”
- MLB also said in their press release that they will try to play as many games as possible once the season commences. As of yet, no concrete decisions appear to have been made.
- Non-roster players — i.e., players in camp but not on the 40-man roster — are being advised to return home if possible. If those non-roster players are unable to return home because of travel restrictions or travel complications, then the team in question “should work with the player to provide suitable accommodations.”
- Unidentified Yankees minor-leaguer tested positive. The Yankees said the player was not in contact with anyone who would have been at the Yankees’ spring training facility as of Sunday.
