DraftKings and FanDuel MLB Picks
Trevor Bauer comes into his last start of an up-and-down 2019 season with solid overall numbers, including a 27.8% K-rate, 1.25 WHIP, and 4.34 xFIP. The matchup against the Pirates will not feature arguably their two best bats in Josh Bell and Starling Marte, so it will be, to put it nicely, a watered-down lineup. Bauer is one of the most talented pitchers on the slate, and there are few bats that you’re worried about here. Outside of ownership, there’s little reason to get off of Bauer tonight at his price across the four sites.
Robbie Ray will get a high-risk, high-upside Padres lineup tonight assuming they roll out their normal starters, as he’ll see some righty power in Manny Machado, Wil Myers, and Hunter Renfroe, but also a lot of strikeout-upside. San Diego is striking out at the fourth-highest rate versus lefties on the year at just under 25%, and overall, they’re an average matchup outside of their power (99 wRC+). Ray’s 31.3% strikeout rate trails only Justin Verlander and Luis Severino on tonight’s slate, and despite his propensity to get pulled at under 100 pitches, his ability to get strikeouts at a discounted rate is valuable on tonight’s slate, which has a ton of quality bats.
Matthew Boyd comes in to tonight looking to put a bow on his solid 2019 season in which he has fanned over 30% of hitters with a 6.4 BB% and 4.38 xFIP. Boyd only struggles giving up power, but the White Sox are one of the best matchups for him, as they have the sixth-worst ISO versus left-handed pitching for the year. The strikeout upside is about as good as you can ask for as the White Sox are fanning at the seventh-highest clip (24.2%) against lefties, and Boyd is actually striking out more righties than lefties this season, so this should be a fantastic spot for him regardless of who plays for the White Sox.
On a slate that should have some value bats opening up, going with some of the top-tier arms on both one- and two-pitcher sites makes for my favorite lineup construction.
Keep an eye on Awesemo’s MLB Projections as they get updated, because we may see some unexpected lineups which could open up a lot of value on tonight’s main slate.
