NBA Daily Fantasy Picks: Awesemo Grades | April 27

Small Forward: Jaylen Brown

DraftKings Grades: A, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: A, Values: A

Brown is a tough fade tonight with both Kemba Walker (side) and Jayson Tatum (ankle) out of the lineup for Boston. Whenever he has been on the court without these two starters this season, Brown’s usage has been at a monstrous 41%. This is a 11.2% increase from his average usage for 2020-21, and Brown is producing an outstanding 1.35 DraftKings points per minute (points per minute) in this situation. With this featured role also comes a prime matchup with the Thunder on Tuesday. As it tanks away its season, this Oklahoma City defense has been horrendous, rating as the second-worst unit in the league this month.

They might get back Luguentz Dort (questionable, hip), who is without question the Thunder’s top wing defender, but by no means should his presence prevent rostering Brown with full confidence. At reasonable price points on both DraftKings and FanDuel, Brown is a building block for all formats.

Shooting Guard: D’Angelo Russell

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: B

FanDuel Grades: B, Values: A

The Timberwolves made headlines last night after securing their second straight win over the top-seeded Jazz. One of the primary reasons for these back-to-back victories over the superior opponent has been the terrific play of Russell. He is no longer under a minutes restriction, and with over 30 minutes in these past two, Russell exposed the elite Utah defense for 42.9 DraftKings points per game. Since returning from the knee injury 12 games ago, he has received a 30.5% usage rate and generated 1.25 DraftKings points per minute as Minnesota’s sixth man.

In Houston tonight, the Timberwolves are competing in the second-largest total of this six-game slate, at 235 points. Furthermore, the 1.5-point spread is the smallest line of the night, and Russell should continue to see right over 30 minutes against a defense that ranks second-to-last in rating across their past 10. Russell is far too cheap on both sites for current his role, and he is a top-two shooting guard value according to Awesemo’s PGA DFS projections.

Point Guard: Kevin Porter Jr.

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: B, Values: A

After missing the past three due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols, Porter will be active tonight against the Timberwolves. His return comes at a perfect time, with John Wall officially shut down for the remainder of the season and Eric Gordon (groin) still on the shelf. In the nine starts he has made with these two high-usage players inactive, Porter has been an efficient fantasy asset, scoring 36.3 DraftKings points per game. He has commanded a 23.7% usage rate and logged 33.5 minutes per game in this time. This is the type of workload he will handle for the Rockets’ final 11 games of the year, and this matchup against Minnesota is the best possible spot Porter could ask for.

No defense in the NBA has given up more DraftKings points per game to opposing point guards than the Wolves this season, and as noted above, this clash of terrible defenses sports a large 235-point total. When he has been active for totals of at least 230 points this season, Porter has contributed 40 DraftKings points per game. Via Awesemo’s NBA DFS projections, he is a top-10value for both DraftKings and FanDuel tonight.

NBA DFS Ownership Projection: DraftKings 17.8%, FanDuel 38.4%

Center: Jusuf Nurkic

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: C

FanDuel Grades: B, Values: D

After being eased back into action, Nurkic has been let off his leash in his last two starts, logging 29 minutes in each. The end results have been two straight efforts of over 50 DraftKings points, and Nurkic has a legitimate chance to top 50 fantasy points again tonight against the Pacers. With Myles Turner (toe) and Domantas Sabonis (back) missing the last four, the Pacers have been extremely susceptible inside. They have surrendered 56.3 rebounds per game and 57.5 points in the paint per game, both of which are league highs during this time.

To put some more gas on the fire, this matchup’s total is at a slate-high 241 points, and the Trail Blazers’ 123.5-point implied total is also the high mark of this six-game slate. This is a perfect spot for Nurkic to reach his ceiling, and he is a must-have NBA daily fantasy picks for GPPs on Tuesday.
