NBA Daily Fantasy Picks Picks Based on Awesemo Grades & Values | 5/7/21

On the menu for Friday night is a value filled 10-game NBA DFS slate. Note that four teams are playing their second game in two nights and six teams are on the front end of a back-to-back set. I fully expect chaos near roster lock, and we must be checking back to Awesemo’s NBA DFS rankings and projections for both DraftKings and FanDuel while making your NBA daily fantasy picks for lineups.

NBA Daily Fantasy Picks: Awesemo Grades | May 7

Center: Mohamed Bamba

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: B, Values: A

Fire up Bamba for all formats in the absence of Wendell Carter (eye). With Carter missing Wednesday, Bamba got the start at center and went off for 53.75 DraftKings points against the Celtics. Despite this game being a 36-point loss for Orlando, Bamba received a season-high 30.5 minutes of action. The Magic are clearly using their final few games of the season to develop their younger players, and no matter the outcome Friday’s matchup against the Hornets, Bamba should log roughly 30 minutes.

The sixth overall pick from the 2018 draft is having a career season, generating an excellent 1.31 DraftKings points per minute, and when his playing time has been north of 25 minutes, Bamba has been a fantasy gem with 46 DraftKings points per game. He is a great target on both sites, but his $6,100 salary on DraftKings makes Bamba arguably the toughest fade of the slate. Via Awesemo’s NBA DFS projections, Bamba is the top point-per-dollar center value on DraftKings this evening.

NBA DFS Ownership Projection: DraftKings 42.2%, FanDuel 19.4%

Point Guard: R.J. Hampton

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: A

FanDuel Grades: C, Values: B

Like Bamba, Hampton has also benefited greatly from the Magic focusing on their younger core with many of their top players injured. Hampton saw 31 minutes in the huge blowout loss to the Celtics on Wednesday, which was the third straight game that Hampton has surpassed the 30-minute threshold. He has flourished with the ample playing time, scoring 42.7 DraftKings points per game, and the high volume is guaranteed to continue Friday against the Hornets. In addition to Carter, Terrence Ross (back), Chuma Okeke (ankle), James Ennis (calf), Michael Carter-Williams (ankle) and Otto Porter (foot) have all been ruled out for Orlando.

Hampton posts a 23.2% usage rate when all these players are off the court, and he is a value that can’t be ignored on DraftKings, considering his low $5,200 salary and shooting guard eligibility.

NBA DFS Ownership Projection: DraftKings 22.0%, FanDuel 5.0%

Latest NBA DFS Content

Center: Dwight Powell

DraftKings Grades: D, Values: B

FanDuel Grades: D, Values: D

Down both Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Maxi Kleber (Achilles), Powell has been the main big man for the Mavericks in their last two despite coming off the bench. With 28 minutes per game, Powell has provided 35.75 DraftKings points per game. Neither Porzingis nor Kleber will be available again tonight, and while Rick Carlisle’s rotations can be very unpredictable at times, it’s hard to imagine him turning away from Powell. With Powell as their featured big man, Dallas has defeated two quality opponents in the Heat and Nets.

On tap for Friday is matchup with the Cavaliers, who rank dead last in defensive rating over their last 10. With their defense being a complete disaster, Cleveland has surrendered the second-most points in the paint per game over this time. This is a perfect spot for Powell’s improved play to continue, and he is one of the strongest punts of the slate at only $3,700 on DraftKings.

NBA DFS Ownership Projection: DraftKings 5.2%, FanDuel 0.1%

Point Guard: Dejounte Murray

DraftKings Grades: B, Values: B

FanDuel Grades: B, Values: A

Right now is an outstanding time to buy low on Murray. After losing five straight games, tonight is a must-win for the Spurs, with the Pelicans now only 1.5 games behind them for the 10th seed in the West, which is final spot for the play-in tournament. Coming off back-to-back duds against the Jazz, Murray’s ownership is expected to be depressed on both sites according to Awesemo’s NBA DFS ownership projections, and Friday’s matchup against the Kings is an outstanding spot for him to bounce back. After facing the No. 3 defense in the league on their home floor in Utah, Murray gets this Sacramento defense that is the weakest unit in the NBA based on efficiency.

Murray was on a roll with 55.1 DraftKings points per game in his previous three before the mini-series against the Jazz, and he is collecting 38.5 DraftKings points per game in a pair of matchups with the Kings this season. In this appetizing spot, the Spurs possess the third-highest implied team total of this full slate at 115.3 points. Whenever San Antonio has been slated for at least 115 points this season, Murray hasn’t disappointed with 45.3 DraftKings points per game.

NBA DFS Ownership Projection: DraftKings 11.0%, FanDuel 13.0%
