The Deep Dive: NBA DFS Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel | Today 5/13/21

There are only four days left in the regular season, so there are a lot of injuries to monitor for tonight’s NBA DFS lineup picks. Most notably, Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid, Jonas Valanciunas, Mo Bamba, Clint Capela, Caris LeVert and Bogdan Bogdanovic are all listed as questionable at the time of writing. As per usual, the injury report later in the day has the potential to open up a ton of value on FanDuel and DraftKings.

NBA DFS Deep Dive: DraftKings + FanDuel | May 13

Guard Stud

Trae Young ($9,100 DraftKings/$8,600 FanDuel) – Young is seeing his fantasy production pick up as the Hawks are trying to close in on clinching the Southeast Division. Atlanta hold a narrow lead of half a game over the Heat so it is still trying to win games. For his reason, Young has seen his usage rate jump to 34.6% over the last seven games. He’s taken it upon himself to bring the Hawks into the playoffs for the first time since he was drafted. There is also a chance that Young could play an even larger than normal role tonight since Clint Capela, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Danilo Gallinari are all questionable to play tonight. As of the latest run, Young is sitting at 46.28 points in Awesemo’s daily fantasy basketball projections.

Guard Value

Malachi Flynn ($5,700 DraftKings/$5,500 FanDuel) – After missing the playoffs, the Raptors have begun to tank aggressively. They are getting a look at their younger players by holding Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, Rodney Hood, O.G. Anunoby, Aron Baynes and Chris Boucher all out of this game. It looks like the Raptors will only have eight players available to play tonight. With this in mind, there should be heavy workloads for young guys like Flynn since Toronto is trying to figure out where he fits into future plans. Flynn is going to start and could push for 40 minutes tonight. As is, he’s averaging 29.68 DraftKings points when starting and now his role should greatly expand.

Forward Stud

Giannis Antetokounmpo ($10,900 DraftKings/$10,900 FanDuel) – The Bucks are not handling their rotations as one would have thought they would down the stretch of the season. Instead of resting for the playoffs, Milwaukee is still trying to pursue the second seed in the East. This makes sense since it will determine who will have home court advantage in a likely meeting between the Bucks and Nets in the second round of the playoffs. Giannis is generally playing his normal rotations and only coming out of games in the fourth quarter if the Bucks are holding a big lead. In a game with a single-digit spread against the Pacers, Giannis should get over 30 minutes of run.

Forward Value

Yuta Watanabe ($3,900 DraftKings/$3,500 FanDuel) – It is surprising there has not been a big Watanabe game recently. He’s playing increased minutes with everybody resting for the Raptors although it hasn’t amounted to much yet. This could change tonight. Toronto started Stanley Johnson last game, but since it seems this team is trending towards playing the younger guys, Watanabe should get back into the starting lineup tonight. He’s played as many as 30 minutes when starting this season, which is a mark he can easily top with the Raptors so shorthanded. Watanabe will certainly be popular (26% projected ownership), but he’s hands down a top value according to our daily fantasy basketball projections.

Center Stud

Nikola Jokic ($11,000 DraftKings/$10,800 FanDuel) – Jokic is my favorite overall play on tonight’s slate. As is the usual at this time of the season, there is going to be enough value to spend up for any stars. Jokic is the player that stands out the most on the high end with Denver shorthanded tonight. As is, Jokic was seeing increased counting stats with Jamal Murray out for the season. This is going to get magnified even further because Michael Porter Jr. is resting tonight. With Murray and MPJ off the court this season, Jokic has a 33.5% usage rate.

Center Value

Chimezie Metu ($4,100 DraftKings/$4,200 FanDuel) – Metu figures to draw another start for the Kings tonight. Without anything to play for, it’s unclear if any of the sidelined players for the Kings will return this season. Tyrese Haliburton has already gotten ruled out for the season while De’Aaron Fox, Marvin Bagley and Harrison Barnes are all expected to miss tonight’s game. In the same situation last game, Metu started and played 29 minutes while scoring 26.25 DraftKings points. Metu averages almost exactly a fantasy point per minute for the season and should play around 30 minutes again.
