NBA DFS Picks: Value & Stud for 9/17

NBA playoff action is underway, and there is NBA DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel. Greg Ehrenberg looks at some NBA DFS Picks to build around for the Thursday, Sept. 17 slate.

NBA DFS Picks: Value + Stud for Sept. 17

Value Pick: Brad Wanamaker

DraftKings $2,800, FanDuel $8,500

In Game 1, Wanamaker was a GPP-winning value play. He was everywhere for Boston, finishing with 33.75 DraftKings points in 25 minutes. He even got some run in overtime, making me think that he will play a significant role for the Celtics again. The steal rate will certainly drop for Wanamaker, but he’s likely earned himself extended minutes for today, and it’s a one-game slate. Any cheap player that we can expect around 20 minutes from makes for a good value. With rotations tight at this time of the season, it’s tough to find value plays that will play a significant role.

Stud Pick: Kemba Walker

DraftKings $8,200, FanDuel $11,500

This is a really strong price tag for Walker if we get the peak version of him. In the playoffs, something seems off. He isn’t playing well, and I’m not really sure why. After he played limited minutes in early bubble games, I wonder if his knee is bothering him a bit. With that said, there are individual plays where Walker looks as explosive as ever. We have seen some sharp crossovers and stepbacks that look like the Walker we know.

Going forward, I expect Walker’s output to improve. While he struggled against the Raptors, this was somewhat expected. Toronto has one of the best perimeter defenses in the league, and drawing defense from Kyle Lowry is never ideal. A matchup against players like Tyler Herro and Goran Dragic is much more favorable. Unless something is truly wrong with Walker, I expect this is the cheapest price we will see on him for the rest of the series.

Contrarian Pick: Duncan Robinson

DraftKings $4,800, FanDuel $8,000

There is a case for Robinson as the best shooter in the NBA. While he can’t create off the dribble like players such as Stephen Curry or Damian Lillard, give me Robinson over both of them in a catch-and-shoot situation. This might seem like a crazy take, but Robinson shot 44.6% from 3 in the regular season. In the playoffs, he’s seen a bit of a dip in minutes for a couple reasons. First, he can’t stop fouling. Oddly, Robinson is in foul trouble early in more games than not. Also, the Heat are shoehorning Andre Iguodala into the rotation to play extended minutes. Even so, Robinson plays normal minutes when he gets his shot going and avoids foul trouble. I don’t expect much ownership, and he’s one of the only cheap players on the slate with a path to upside.
