NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings, FanDuel & Yahoo Building Blocks Today | Sunday, Jan. 30

Yahoo Play of the Day — Luka Doncic: Dallas Mavericks at Orlando Magic

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 50.69 | DraftKings: 54.58
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 32.2% | FanDuel 42.6% | DraftKings 39.2%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $52 | FanDuel $10,800 | DraftKings $11,200

This is a back-to-back for Dallas who won at home last night against Indiana 132-105. Unfortunately for Mavericks fans, Kristaps Porzingis left the game with knee soreness and he has been ruled out for tonight. Over the last two seasons when Luka Doncic shares the court with Porzingis, he averages 1.46 Yahoo Fantasy points per minute. Looking at NBA WOWY we can see that without Porzingis that rate remains relatively the same at 1.47 fantasy points. Basically his assist rate dips a little while his rebounding rate ticks up. If this game stays close, and it should with Dallas only 5.5 road favorites, there is a strong possibility that Doncic will flirt with 60 fantasy points.

The NBA player props market for Kyle Kuzma tonight is one to exploit against the Grizzlies. In the Awesemo projections he is currently carrying a 13.9-point projection, while his point prop is over/under 17.5. Over his last five games, Kuzma is averaging 15.6 points with only one game over 16 points. This may be a bet worth making, with an expected win rate of 70% on OddsShopper.

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Denver Nuggets

  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Point Projections: Yahoo and FanDuel: 54.28 | DraftKings: 55.84
  • Awesemo’s Preliminary Rostered Projections: Yahoo 33.6% | FanDuel 44.6% | DraftKings 28.3%
  • DFS Salary: Yahoo $55 | FanDuel $11,000 | DraftKings $11,800

There are plenty of value options tonight so we can actually work in both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic in this premiere matchup. This duo has combined for the three most recent NBA MVPs with Jokic currently holding the title belt. Both players are among the league leaders with 1.6-1.7 fantasy points per minute which is just absurd. Antetokounmpo gets the slight nod since most sites limit the number of centers we can play to just two and that position usually has the best point per dollar options on any given day.

San Antonio Spurs at Phoenix Suns

It looks like coach Gregg Popovich is fine with taking a “schedule” loss tonight with Dejounte Murray (knee) out and suddenly Jakob Poeltl and Derrick White joining him on the sideline. Keldon Johnson, Lonnie Walker IV and Devin Vassell will be the main offensive cogs and all are coming at a significant discount with this news coming out after salaries were already assigned for the slate. Tre Jones, Drew Eubanks, Jock Landale and Doug McDermott are all in play. This all comes with flashing warning signs however – we need to keep in mind that even without Deandre Ayton, Phoenix still has an excellent defense and the top three offensive options are out for the Spurs. We have seen teams implode when the wrong players are out en masse. Limiting lineups to two or maybe three Spurs at the most seems to be a savvy strategy.

Phoenix is double digit home favorite and we should see both Chris Paul and Devin Booker have good games, but if the Suns roll out to an early lead it may be hard for this duo to have great games. Deandre Ayton (ankle) has been out for two weeks and he is a game time decision. It is hard to see him being pushed too hard if he returns, so there is a lot of risk from a fantasy perspective. We could also see some of the Phoenix stalwarts get a night off, which would give a boost to various understudies. Keep an eye on any news coming out of Phoenix today and be ready to have contingency plans in place if it comes out after lock.

Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves

Donovan Mitchell (concussion) and Rudy Gobert (calf) are both out. This means we will see Hassan Whiteside starting at center once again with Joe Ingles also picking up additional point guard duties when spelling Mike Conley. All of the Jazz core rotation players are fine options tonight in all formats with the Jazz projected for 113 points.

D’Angelo Russell (lower leg) missed the last game and he is questionable tonight. Patrick Beverley (ankle) has missed the last four games and he is questionable again. In the event either or both of these guards are out we should see a big boost for Malik Beasley and Jaylen Nowell. Anthony Edwards sees a boost as well and he and Karl-Anthony Towns both benefit with their Utah counterparts out with injuries.

Final Thoughts on NBA DFS picks for the Sunday, Jan. 30 Slate

Four games are tipping off after the NFC Championship game starts, so do not get distracted from any breaking NBA news. Keep in mind that salaries and scoring formats differ across the various fantasy sites, and a slam-dunk play on Yahoo may be a below-average NBA DFS pick on DraftKings or FanDuel.
