January 22 NBA DFS Pick: Ben Simmons
Now, Awesemo sets his sights on today’s NBA slate, with some seriously good matchups on several daily fantasy sites.
NBA DFS Pick: Ben Simmons ($9,300 DraftKings, $9,300 FanDuel) Grades: A, A; Values: A, A
How about this Ben Simmons renaissance? While he’s been one of the more versatile players in the league for three years, a triple-double threat any given night and capable of guarding five positions, Simmons’ scoring value has always been somewhat curtailed by Philadelphia’s offense. More specifically, the pairing with Joel Embiid is less than ideal. Simply put, with Simmons’ shooting insufficiencies, the two occupy the same space and frequently get in each other’s way. Well, with Embiid out for extended time, Simmons has flourished. He has played seven games in a row now without Embiid, averaging 21.3 points, 9.1 rebounds and 7.9 assists, shooting less than 58 percent just once in that time.
Most recently, Simmons pulled off one of his best career games with a 34, 12 and 12 triple-double on 12-for-14 shooting. Having the space to occupy the low block has greatly enhanced Simmons’ scoring and rebounding upside without costing him assist numbers. And since the 76ers are 5-2 in these games, Brett Brown may look to stagger Simmons and Embiid going forward.

Tonight, Simmons and the 76ers get a moderate pace-up against Toronto. The Raptors are one of the best defensive teams in basketball, but Simmons is averaging a triple-double in two games against them this year with 65.4 percent true shooting. Granted, the scoring has not been there, but this version of Simmons takes on much more of an offensive role. He should have the ball in his hands a lot tonight and when he does, Simmons can make a lot of good things happen. He has serious triple-double upside on this NBA DFS slate.
