Yahoo Fantasy Basketball Picks & NBA DFS Value Plays Today | 3/29/22

The slate today has just five NBA games on the docket but there are a lot of decisions to be made thanks to the rolling injury report of the NBA regular season. Brooklyn and Detroit have the largest game total on the night at 234.5 but the Nets are 13.5-point favorites, so blowout concern could be a factor there. Injury-wise, the big news of the day is the fact that both Lebron James and Anthony Davis are doubtful to suit up for the Lakers, which would open up big-time value throughout the Lakers roster for Yahoo fantasy basketball lineup. Zach LaVine and Rudy Gobert also set up as true game-time decisions for their respective clubs.

This column will use the Awesemo NBA player projections, fantasy basketball rankings and NBA DFS tools to build lineups and help wade through the day’s data and news. Make sure to read to the end for a couple of extreme value plays for Yahoo fantasy basketball lineups today.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball & NBA DFS Value Picks Today

Guard — Kentavious Caldwell-Pope $17

The Wizards are a team that offers tons of value options today. Kyle Kuzma remains out, and they have a thin rotation at a lot of positions including guard, where Kentavious Caldwell-Pope continues to see heavy usage. Caldwell-Pope has averaged over 32 minutes over his last six games and remains a solid all-around contributor, having posted at least one steal in nine of his last 10 games. He has also shot the ball extremely well of late and faces off against a Bulls team who could be without LaVine today. This game has a close point spread at 3.5 and should be a good upside matchup for Caldwell-Pope, who has the top point projection in the Awesemo Model of anyone under $20 in salary on Yahoo.

Guard — Kyrie Irving $44

The Nets’ Kyrie Irving is coming off a disappointing home debut where he went just six of 22 from the field. It is tough to say whether Irving will need more time to get used to his home environment again, but it is not something to worry about, especially when Brooklyn is projected to be the highest-scoring team on the slate today. The Pistons have played better lately but they are still bottom six in terms of opposing field goal percentage and opposing 3-point field goal percentage allowed on the season. There are plenty of options to choose from at point guard, but Irving’s salary could make him the forgotten play in big field GPPs, which is great considering the upside he has shown of late (games of 87.2 and 60.4 Yahoo points in two of his last four starts). Paying up for him today makes a ton of sense in GPPs, where the Nets starters all have some of the best upsides on the slate.

Forward — Bruce Brown $22

The Nets have the largest implied team total on this slate by far with 124, so do not shy away from stacking players from their squad today. The Pistons have been competitive lately and, if they do keep this game close, it means there is a good chance to cash in on this cheap price for Bruce Brown, who rates out very well at small forward. Brown comes in ranked third in the Awesemo Fantasy Basketball Projections and should be available for bigger minutes after playing under 25 minutes in each of his last two starts. The Nets’ rotation is getting deeper but Brown still is a good value at these prices. Detroit has allowed the most fantasy points per game to the small forward position this year. Brown is a good value and could easily rebound today if this game stays semi-close.

Forward — DeMar DeRozan $37

The Bulls could be without LaVine, who continues to deal with a multitude of injury issues. His absence, or reduced workload, should mean better usage for DeMar DeRozan, who enters this game off his best performance in over eight games. DeRozan poured in 37 real-life points and went for over 50 Yahoo points in a loss to the Knicks. He now gets an even better fantasy matchup today against Washington, who allows the fifth-most fantasy points per game to the power forward position. Not having Kuzma for this game makes this an even better matchup for DeRozan, who is third at power forward in the Awesemo Projections but has a much more affordable salary than the top two plays. DeRozan is a great play to build around and force you into rostering players you do not want to at other positions.

DeRozan was showing up well in Awesemo’s fantasy basketball rankings today. He is popping as one of the best Yahoo Fantasy Basketball plays on the entire DFS slate. Check out who else is one of the best NBA picks today in the Yahoo NBA DFS Cheat Sheet.

Center — Marvin Bagley III $21

The Pistons have done a good job at keeping games close and head into this game with the Nets having not lost a game by more than 15 points in over a month. Obviously, they have a huge battle on their hands today against the explosive Nets, but targeting the Pistons starters is not something to necessarily shy away from with this big a total of 234.5 on hand. Marvin Bagley III has moved into the starting lineup lately for the Pistons with Jerami Grant out for the year and has posted over 25 real-life points in each of his last two games. The matchup today is not terrible for Bagley either, as Brooklyn has allowed the sixth-most offensive rebounds on the season. Look to Bagley for some value, as he has the best value score of anyone above $20 in salary on Yahoo in the Awesemo NBA DFS projections today

Yahoo NBA DFS Value Play — Dwight Howard $12

As mentioned above, the Lakers are looking like they will be without both James and Davis today. That could still change, but if both men miss, Dwight Howard (probable) would become a huge value target. His usage the last time they did not play went through the roof, as he came down with 24 points and eight rebounds. He has averaged right around 30 minutes in his last two games but is coming off a slow night where he only managed 19 Yahoo points in over 28 minutes, which might even keep his rostership levels palatable. Dallas is only about league average in rebounds allowed to the center position, making this a good spot to deploy Howard at a huge bargain price.
