The Simmies: 1993-94 Rockets vs. 2012-13 Heat Sunday Recap

This matchup features two squads separated by nearly 20 NBA seasons. Ray Allen is the lone Hall of Famer for the Heat, though LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will be joining him there in the future. On the other side of the court, Hakeem Olajuwon is the only Rockets HOF representative as Clyde Drexler did not join him until the next year and it was not until the 1996-97 season that Charles Barkley came into town.

Just a reminder, the Rockets won both of the NBA Championships while Michael Jordan was playing minor league baseball while this Heat squad won the second of back-to-back titles.

Gamesmanship is not as important as marksmanship!

In the first half the Heat rolled out to a 36-24 lead, making 15 of 21 field goal attempts, including three of four from beyond the arc. The Rockets led the way with 7:09 in the time of possession, but were not efficiently scoring. Both teams had 22 points in the paint, but Houston had just one fast break bucket in the first two quarters while Miami had nine.

By the end of the third quarter, the Heat were 23-of-34 from the field. LeBron was leading the way with 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting with six dunks but no rebounds. Olajuwon has carried the Rockets with 19 points, four rebounds and two blocks, but he could not do it alone.

The final frame was more of the same with Miami strolling to a 65-52 victory with 29-of-43 (67%) from the field and 28 fast break points. By comparison, while the Rockets shot 52%, they were no match for the Heat.

LeBron James lead the way with 27 points, four assists and two steals on 11-for-12 shooting with Wade posting a 17-point, 10-assist double-double. Olajuwon had 24 points, six rebounds and two blocks with Otis Thorpe pitching in with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.

Crossover Players

Robert Horry is actually on three different teams in the tournament. Tonight he played with the 1993-94 Rockets, but he also was on the 2004-05 Spurs and the 2000-01 Lakers.

Ray Allen is taking the court tonight with the 2012-13 Heat and he also appeared with the 2007-08 Celtics.

LeBron is also on the 2015-16 Cavaliers.

NBA All-Stars

James and Wade both started for the Eastern Conference squad with Chris Bosh named as a reserve. Hakeem Olajuwon was the lone Houston player that made the team back in the 1993-94 season.

Vancouver Grizzlies of the Day

While this Miami team does not have any connection to the Vancouver Grizzlies, three Houston players also played north of the border. Otis Thorpe, Carl Herrera and Larry Robinson all suited up for the Grizz. However, only Thorpe made the NBA2K roster cut.
