The 2021 NHL season is going strong, and it has been unpredictable and entertaining. Like many sports, the easiest way to maximize your ceiling is through stacking, and that couldn’t be any truer in NHL DFS. For reference, each goal averages 1.7 assists. In this article I’ll help you find the best stacks and daily fantasy hockey picks for DraftKings and FanDuel fantasy hockey lineups using Awesemo’s Top Stack Tool.
Top Stacks: Daily Fantasy Hockey Picks | March 7
Top Stack: BOS1
Linemates: David Pastrnak – Patrice Bergeron – Brad Marchand
Often the line with the highest top-two stack percentage on a six-game slate is also carrying tons of ownership, but with prices over $23,000 combined, we can spend up to get different on a line in a great spot.
New Jersey, oddly enough, started out the year by shutting down this Boston team their first few games of the year, but since then it has been a struggle for them defensively, especially on the penalty kill. The Devils rank dead last in the NHL, with a 63.9% kill that shows no signs of improving. All of their metrics rank in the bottom five as well.
Paying this price comes with multiple benefits in regard to ownership (especially on DraftKings) and ceiling. You aren’t going to find a better matchup for arguably the best line in hockey at low ownership on a smaller slate.
Awesemo’s Top 2 Stack Percentage: 33%
Awesemo’s Ownership Projection: 18.15%
Leverage: 14.85%
Others: PHI1
Over-Owned Stack: DAL1
Linemates: Denis Gurianov – Joe Pavelski – Jamie Benn
With projected ownership well over 10% on both sites going into a bad matchup, we’ll need to watch exposure on this line. The Stars have struggled to create shots and score goals consistently all year, ranking 28th or lower in shots, goals and expected goals per 60.
The Predators have been poor all season, but it’s not due to their defense, possession or chance creation. With shots per 60, Corsi, scoring chances against per 60 and expected goals against all in the top 10, they are not an easy matchup in NHL DFS. Juuse Saros and Pekka Rinne have obviously been the weak link in this team’s chain all year, with both carrying save percentages well below league average.
Both of these teams are on back-to-backs, which is rare these days but could also be something to consider in terms of speed and skating for Pavelski and Benn.
Awesemo’s Top 2 Stack Percentage: 12.35%
Awesemo’s Ownership Projection: 15.75%
Leverage: -3.4%
Value Stacks: NYR1, OTT3
