NFL Betting Picks + NFL Odds: Week 9 Monday Night Football | Patriots vs Jets

Cam Newton Under 1.5 Passing Touchdowns: -137 (DraftKings, as of 10:30 a.m.)

We are set to close out Week 9 in the NFL with an AFC East battle on Monday night football. There was a time not that long ago when the Jets and Patriots would have been a marquee game with New York looking to take down Tom Brady and the Patriots dominance. Today however it’s a battle to see who could avoid the basement of the division and for the Jets its another chance to try and win their first game. Vegas doesn’t expect that to happen however as New England is a 10 point road favorite with a total sitting at just 41.5 points.

The player prop market has a ton available for Monday Night Football, and I am going to the QB’s specifically with Cam Newton’s TD passes. The line is set at 1.5 across the industry with the under being slightly favorite sitting at -137 on DraftKings. I am going to lean towards that side as this team really isn’t built to excel thru the air and the matchup shouldn’t force them into a ton of passing opportunities.

So far Cam has just 2 passing TD’s for the entire season so for him to double that tonight will take a much better version of this offense. Newton has 0 passing touchdowns in his last three games and that is in losses where New England had to play from behind. Here we have them as a 10 point favorite so it figures they will be looking to run the clock out late and keep the ball on the ground. Now the Jets certainly are a good matchup as they struggle on both sides of the ball, but the gameplan shouldn’t involve a ton of passing when that’s not what New England does well anyway.

Seeing this sitting at -137 right now is a good enough spot for me to fire as this could drift upward towards kickoff. Cam is dangerous on the ground, but these are strictly passing touchdowns so him running it in will be a benefit for this prop. The game script and the fact that New England’s offense really struggles is a perfect combination for them once again to have a quiet game thru the air and I will look to take advantage of that here.
