NFL Picks + NFL Odds: Thursday Night Football | Eagles vs. Giants
Boston Scott Under 52.5 Rushing Yards: -115 (PointsBet, as of 9 a.m.)
We get things started for Week 7 with a divisional matchup on Thursday Night Football. Normally when you have a 1-5 team taking on a 1-4-1 squad it’s generally bereft of playoff potential. That couldn’t be further from the truth tonight, as both of these teams are squarely in the hunt for the AFC East, which the Cowboys lead at 2-4. Vegas has the Eagles as 4.5-point favorites and these are the types of games Philadelphia needs to win if they want to eventually take down this division.
In the prop world we have a ton of options to choose from, but I am going to the Eagles side of things with their now top running back in Boston Scott. We got official word that Miles Sanders will join Zach Ertz on the sidelines for this game, so the Eagles will have to rely on some new faces to generate offense. Although Scott will be asked to carry some of that workload, I am leaning towards the under on his running prop, which is 52.5 yards.
The first question I have about this backfield is how much work will Corey Clement get, as that could determine a lot about where Scott ultimately ends up. With the Chargers a few weeks ago, we saw them turn to a committee like approach when Austin Ekeler went down, and I believe Clement will get reasonable volume on the ground. Scott may get more looks in the passing game, but we are unconcerned about that and only care about the carry distribution. Clement’s rushing prop is 20.5, so he should at minimum receive a handful of carries regardless of game script.
The final piece is the matchup, and although the Giants are not a good team, they have a somewhat stout front seven. They are fifth in the league in rushing yards allowed per attempt at just 3.7 yards per carry, so that is another reason to worry about where Scott ultimately will end up. The Giants are usually trailing, so teams running the ball won’t be anything new. Actually, this is one of their more competitive spreads this season. If the Eagles somehow fall behind, that will force Scott into even less volume. At -115, I am comfortable taking a position on the under for this rushing prop.
