NBA Odds & Betting Picks: Wednesday December 23
Last night got things started in the NBA with a doubleheader, but tonight is the first full slate of games. We have a massive 13-game slate to break down, which means the majority of the league is getting their season underway. The NBA is a marathon, not a sprint, but we still want to be early on some potential value in both the DFS and betting markets. Let’s dive into the betting side of things and see what we can find on this huge NBA card.
NBA Prop Bet: Giannis Antetokounmpo Over 27.5 Points -125 (DraftKings, as of 9:30 a.m. EST)
For today’s player prop I am heading to a potential Eastern Conference Finals preview with the Bucks heading to Boston to take on the Celtics. The bubble ended disappointingly for both teams, and they will want to get things started on a positive note tonight. Milwaukee is led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, and I am targeting his points prop of 27.5 across the industry. I am leaning toward the over here and think that Giannis will get things started with a huge game to set the tone for what could be a revenge tour for Milwaukee.
The Bucks were bounced from the bubble despite being heavy favorites to get out of the East. Giannis and Milwaukee now add in Jrue Holiday and have no excuses for failing to be a major factor come playoff time. Before we get there, we have a long regular season, and tonight’s game should offer some insight into how the Celtics want to slow down Giannis. In three regular-season games last year against Boston, Giannis averaged 30 points and shot 50% or better in each game. He was in full control, and that was despite going a combined 1-for-10 from 3-point range in those games. Presumably, the Celtics will tempt him once again to make outside shots. Considering he was pushing over 27.5 points against this team last year despite cold shooting, this is a nice spot right out of the gate, with Milwaukee a 3.5-point favorite in a game with a 224.5 total.
Over 27.5 is -125, which is reasonable given Giannis is unstoppable and has shown success against Boston in recent games. Early-season NBA certainly has more questions than answers, especially coming off an unprecedented offseason, so I will be sticking with props on players whose roles are secure and on whom we have more info. With this price still at a reasonable line, I will bank on the best player on the floor once again having a big game against Boston. If the 3-pointers start to fall, he will easily finish over 27.5 points tonight.
