Pros of DraftKings Sportsbook
DraftKings has taken their success in the DFS world and transferred it over nicely to sports betting. It’s clear why they have become one of the go-to options for bettors in legal states.
DraftKings Sportsbook is incredibly user-friendly. The site is clean with big, clear tabs to help you navigate. They do a great job at making sure the page does not feel too crowded, which can be a struggle for some individuals who just learned how to sports bet online when they visit other books. The sportsbook looks and operates just as well on mobile with their sportsbook app, which can be used in the six states listed above.
DraftKings Sportsbook also has the dark background, which only helps to accent their bright green color scheme and draw the user’s eyes to action areas. The dark background is the equivalent of putting other social media sites to “night mode,” which helps save your eyes when placing late night bets.
DraftKings Sportsbook provides options for all major sports. From NFL to tennis and UFC to golf, the book has games available. However, the book’s normal betting options only cover sports. This should seem obvious seeing that it’s a “sportsbook,” but there are other books that get into offering bets for entertainment or political events. They do, however, have free pools that occasional dip into the entertainment world, such as Shark Tank or Survivor.
You are able to place the simple bets, like moneyline, point total and picks against the spread. However, it’s their other betting variety that lifts them from being good to great. There are expansive props and futures, as well as in-game, live betting.
DraftKings also has pools, which makes them unique from other books. Users can create their own private pool or join others, making a number of selections for the unique contest in order to get paid. Examples of pools included answering questions about Shark Tank, picking game leaders for stats and much more. There are also free pools which anyone can participate in no matter location.
If you have ever played fantasy on DraftKings, you’re already set up and familiar with the depositing methods. You share the same wallet, making it incredibly simple.
If you are not familiar with their fantasy side, DraftKings Sportsbook offers a ton of reliable, convenient methods of depositing:
- Credit/Debit Card
- Wire Transfer
- ACH/Bank Transfer
- Cash at various businesses
That last payment method of cash is very interesting and worth expanding on. You can actually get funds put into your account by paying cash at Family Dollar, Dollar General, 7-Eleven or CVS. Essentially, you get a barcode to scan at one of these retailers, and you can select the amount of cash to be deposited.
Withdrawing is made easy at DraftKings Sportsbook. You can receive your money to the original funding source, PayPal or with a mailed check.
Now, this is a category that can be considered a pro or a con, depending on what you’re comparing it to. It’s all relative, and I will explain what I mean, but their marketing is overall positive.
With over 35,000 followers on Twitter, the DraftKings Sportsbook page gets a lot of traffic. They have partnered with events and companies, offer odds-boosted promotions and even helped to create a partner site to provide content called DK Nation. Compared to most sportsbooks, DraftKings is miles ahead.
However, DraftKings will always be compared to FanDuel, and in this case, FanDuel Sportsbook is marketing much better. FanDuel has partnered with athletes, like the electric Pat McAfee, to do sponsored events and even to create random office contests for users to bet on. FanDuel Sportsbook also had their partnered content site, The Duel, long before DK Nation came around.
So, again, DraftKings’ marketing is good, but it’s all relative.
Cons of DraftKings Sportsbook
I noted above that they have a welcome bonus worth up to $1,000. This bonus comes through two different methods. First, you receive 20 percent of your deposit back, up to $500. Second, there is a risk-free bet, up to $500, in which you would receive the funds lost on your first bet, up to $500.
These sound great, but there are some caveats that are not made as clear, which make the bonus sound less favorable. For the deposit matching bonus, where they give you an extra 20 percent, the user receives $1 for every $25 played. In other words, the user that deposited $2,500, to receive the maximum $500 bonus, would need to play $12,500 total before receiving their full bonus. While this includes their DFS contests, only the money put on bets with -300 or longer odds count towards this.
This is a fantastic sportsbook. It is super easy to use for anyone who just learned how to bet sports online, looks great, offers an awesome variety and it’s easy for those already with DraftKings accounts to start playing. The welcome bonus is a case of “too good to be true,” but that is the only con on what is an outstanding product.
