Edlow’s Edge: OddsShopper MLB + CFB | Friday, 10/9

We have a couple of huge games on Friday night, but not a whole lot jumps out to me in the NBA. I think the Lakers should be able to close this one out but probably will just enjoy the game. I have some leans on the MLB game but haven’t fully decided how I’ll fire on them. So I’ll list them out below and let you decide what angle you want to take for your MLB picks. Per usual, I’ll have any official plays on Twitter. I don’t want to just leave you with one game, though. While I don’t claim to be a college football analyst, I am betting a spot that I’ll analyze below.

Let’s break down these spots that jump out to me, using the Awesemo OddsShopper tool to help us find the best current odds.

New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays

First-Five Over 3.5 (-120)

New York First-Five -0.5 (-110)

Run Scored in 1st Inning: YES (+120)

As you can see, I like the Yankees, and I like some early runs to go on the board. I understand how good Gerrit Cole and Tyler Glasnow are, but they are also going on extremely limited rest. Cole, who got dinged up by the Rays all season, will pitch on three days rest for the first time in his career. Glasnow, who relies heavily on his velocity, will pitch on an insane two days of rest. While Glasnow will serve as an opener for the first few innings, I still think the Yankees can get some runs off him, which also sways us towards the first-five run line play.

Blake Snell should be the next arm up behind Glasnow and is also on three days rest like Cole. These two matched up in Game 1, and we saw the Yankees leading 4-3 after five innings. Then in Game 2, Glasnow came out and surrendered four runs in the first four innings, with a game total that sat at 10 runs through five innings. Both of these games saw runs scored in the first inning, so I think the plus money is worth a small splash there too.

OddsShopper can help give you consideration as to where the best prices will be here on the first-five lines, but also track it throughout the day for a price on the Yankees. I obviously like them in this game,I am just not a big fan of laying more than -150.

Florida at Texas A&M: Florida -6.5 (-110)

This is probably a square play, but that doesn’t mean it’s the wrong play. I thought this number would be closer to 10, even with the Gators on the road. Florida is a team that is essentially a pick-’em with Georgia to win the SEC East, speaking to just how good this team is. The Gators won their opener by 16 at Ole Miss, and followed it up with a less-than-stellar 14-point win over South Carolina. But they broke open huge leads and were in command of both games. They should be able to maintain more than a touchdown distance with A&M, who’s been pretty disappointing so far. The Aggies scored just 17 points in their opener, defeating lowly Vanderbilt by five points at home as a favorite of 30-plus. They followed that up with a 28-point loss at Alabama, which is never something to be ashamed of, but they still failed to cover by double digits. The only thing the Aggies have going for them in this one is home-field advantage, but they’re lucky to be ranked, facing a squad with a Heisman hopeful in Kyle Trask, and a team that believes they belong in the College Football Playoff.

OddsShopper shows this one pretty universal across the board, with Florida laying 6.5.
