First thing’s first — I’m not a golf tout. That should be pretty obvious, considering it’s the week of The Masters, and I’m sitting here writing about a match where three of the four golfers involved aren’t even professionals. But I do have a golf betting pick on The Match III, featuring Peyton Manning and Stephen Curry vs. Charles Barkley and Phil Mickelson. The event takes place the day after Thanksgiving, and I think there’s reason to get the pick in sooner rather than later.

Golf Betting Picks: The Match III | Manning-Curry vs. Barkley-Mickelson
Peyton Manning – Stephen Curry (-145)
Everyone’s mind is clearly on The Masters right now, and rightfully so. I’ll give some picks since everyone wants some — I bet Jon Rahm at +1200 to win and Bubba Watson to finish top 20 at +110. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about a golf tournament I’m betting more heavily.
The Match III will take place on Friday, Nov. 27 (the day after Thanksgiving), featuring an alternate-shot format. Both players will hit their teammate’s tee shot and then pick one ball from there and play that ball, alternating shots the rest of the hole. The teams will be Manning and Curry going up against Mickelson and Barkley.
So, the team with the professional golfer is the dog in this one, but they should really be a much steeper one. We know what we’ll get from Mickelson, and I also think we have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to get from Curry and Manning. Manning looked awesome in The Match II, and we’ve seen Curry shoot in the low 70s in plenty of celebrity tournaments. Manning and Curry are essentially scratch golfers and should make a very solid team.
This is about betting against Barkley, and I want everything to do with that. We’ve all seen Barkley’s swing. As someone that stinks at golf, I can’t comprehend how he is going to keep this competitive. Barkley consistently shoots over 100 in celebrity tournaments, and if you google his performances in them, you’ll find multiple recent last-place finishes. Barkley played in the American Century Championship over the summer of 2020, finishing 69th out of 70 — Eddie George was the big loser.
Barkley has admitted in interviews that during his playing days he used to be able to break 80 on the course. But different advice from different people “got his wires crossed,” and he’s just mentally broken when it comes to his swing. It’s going to take a coaching performance for the ages from Mickelson here, and I’m willing to bet against that happening.
A line on this isn’t open at all books yet, so keep an eye out for it. I believe DraftKings was the first to post at -150, and after a little while on the board, it’s been bet up to -175. After some odds shopping of my own, PointsBet is offering the best price on Manning – Curry at -145. I’d be comfortable locking that, or hawking other books and looking to bet a better number when it opens. But I think the market at DraftKings is indicative of what will happen everywhere — people are going to bet against Barkley, and this could close around -200.
