The big headline coming into this series for the Lakers was the health of LeBron James. After missing the vast majority of the back half of the season with an ankle injury, it was reported that James is still not 100%. Well, he nearly had a triple-double in Game 1, finishing with 18 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. While those aren’t necessarily the numbers expected from James in the playoffs, it’s still a solid line against a top-notch defensive team. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, Anthony Davis struggled mightily in Game 1, scoring just 13 points. He will need to be a whole lot better if the reigning champs are to advance.

For those who doubted that the Suns are for real, they had their answer after Game 1. The franchise’s two young stars sparkled in the win. Devin Booker did it all, finishing with 34 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, center Deandre Ayton dropped in 21 points to go along with 16 boards. Ayton has been plagued by inconsistency all season, but he thoroughly outplayed Davis in Game 1. Chris Paul had to be taken to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury but returned to the court later on. He still dished eight assists and, when asked about his status for Tuesday night, said that he would absolutely be ready to go.

Lakers vs. Suns Prediction

It was far from a pretty performance from the defending NBA champs in Game 1, to say the least. Just the fact that the NBA betting odds consider them to be slim favorites ahead of Game 2 is noteworthy. The Suns have been virtually unbeatable at home all season, which makes a plus-money ticket on Phoenix to win outright rather appealing in terms of value. As far as a preferred NBA picks option on this game, taking the under at the best available number seems like the way to go. Both the Lakers and Suns were two of the top-scoring defenses this season. Neither team plays with a next-level pace either, with Phoenix in particularly ranking 26th in possessions per game on the season. Game 1 was a grinder, and the rest of the series will probably follow suit, regardless of which team ultimately emerges victorious.

Prediction: Under 210
