This line seems to account for the fact that Brady Singer is a rookie pitcher, the Athletics have a good hitting team, and they are playing at home. Those factors are not enough of an advantage for the A’s to be favored today. Singer is projecting to be much better than Cole Irvin. Irvin gives up a ton of power, allowing an xSLG of .439 compared to Singer’s .345. He also strikes out almost 8 percent fewer batters, and the Kansas City lineup is just as formidable as the Athletics’. All in all, the Royals should be favored in this MLB betting spot based on the pitching matchup alone. The other factors are a wash.

Lucas Giolito Over 8.5 Strikeouts vs. Tigers: +132 (FanDuel)

Giolito is in a perfect matchup against the Tigers today. Most people will pay the juice to get the over 7.5 strikeout prop instead, and it is worth being a little more aggressive with the over at 8.5 at plus odds. Tigers are top three in strikeouts this year, and Giolito is flashing insane swinging strike numbers. In his last start against the Tigers he had a whopping 18% swinging-strike rate that led to nine strikeouts in only seven innings. He also got very unlucky with BABIP and gave up four runs in that game, which elevated his pitch count. It should be a dominant performance today in Detroit against a strikeout-happy Tigers team. This is one of the best MLB player props to attack tonight.
