Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics ML (-130, SugarHouse)
The Oakland Athletics come into Saturday’s matchup with the hope of big numbers on the scoreboard. Oakland’s +0.5 increase on the team total is a good indicator that offensive numbers are on the horizon.
Cole Irvin has been solid this season, with a 3.62 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 117 innings. Compared to his counterpart, Jaime Barria, the right-hander owns a 6.23 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. This is where the matchup could potentially take a turn for the worst with Los Angeles.
The A’s won each of their last three games, two against the Angels, by more than one run. Let’s keep it simple and say they win outright for the score.
Detroit Tigers vs. Baltimore Orioles ML (-105, BetMGM)
John Means is back on the mound for the Orioles, and I believe today is the day he finally gets back on track. The Tigers struggle against left-handed pitching, with the fourth-highest K-rate (26.2%) in that split. The first two games of this series haven’t produced many runs, and it’s time for Detroit to have its fair share of baffles.
Matt Manning allows plenty of base runners, as evidenced by his 6.00 ERA and 1.42 WHIP this season. As I mentioned, we haven’t seen that breakout performance yet from the Orioles in this series. However, tonight is the night we start seeing some of those ducks on the pond start coming around.
Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets ML (-120, BetMGM, SugarHouse)
I see the matchup of left-handed starters going in favor of the Mets in this one. Rich Hill makes his second start in New York, and he’ll be facing a Reds team that ranks inside the Top-10 as a whiff-happy bunch against southpaws. Hill is great at inducing strikeouts, so he’ll get plenty of them tonight.
Wade Miley has been allowing plenty of hits, and it’s time for the Mets to make him pay. The southpaw has allowed at least seven hits in each of his last five starts, so guys like Pete Alonso and new addition Javier Baez will get it going. New York got a nice +0.3 increase on its team total and is ready to do damage against the lefty Miley before getting to the Cincinnati bullpen.
