Suns vs. Grizzlies Best Bets Friday 4/1/22

The Grizzlies have not been fooling around, winning nine of their last 10 games, including six straight. That is still not enough to close any gap between them and the top-seeded Suns, who are also enjoying a ridiculous win streak of their own. The Suns have won nine straight games, already clinching the top seed out West and home-court advantage for as long as they play. Much like the Suns not missing a beat without Chris Paul, who has since returned, such is the case with Memphis and Ja Morant. The Grizzlies are 19-2 without their All-Star point guard, as multiple players continue to chip in to fill the void. Unfortunately for Memphis tonight, it does not look promising that those players will be on the floor. Tyus Jones, Jaren Jackson, Desmond Bane and Steven Adams are all doubtful for what should be a billed rest night for the Grizzlies.

With Paul already back and Devin Booker continuing to pour in points, the Suns are actually getting healthier tonight. Cameron Johnson will play through a quad injury and return from the injured list. Jae Crowder, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges will fill out the rest of the starting rotation around Booker and Paul. Bridges led the Suns with 22 points in their most recent win over the Warriors, aided by a double-double from Ayton. The Suns are 31-6 on the road this year, the only team north of 30 wins away from home. They also are second in the NBA in scoring average each game.

Suns -3.5 First Half Spread: -115 (BetMGM)

The Grizzlies are not looking to compete tonight, at least with any of their true starting five. It is hard to gauge how long the Suns will keep their starters in this game, especially if things go as expected against backups. The line is still a little short at -7 on OddsShopper but even better as a first-half number, especially with the hook in play. The Suns are clearly not letting up on anyone as the regular season winds down and add Johnson back to an already stacked lineup. Even if Phoenix sleepwalks through the first quarter, there is so much more talent on their team tonight that they could easily cover this number by the half. Memphis may turn around late and start one of these guys, but this is not some ploy by the Grizzlies or gamesmanship on the injury list. This is a planned night off and should be bet accordingly. Phoenix is showing no signs of matching any starters on the bench, so this is way too short of a line to pass.

Devin Booker Over 4.5 Rebounds: +110 (DraftKings)

The Booker prop markets seem to be favorites of OddsShopper, be it top xWin or xROI. Booker has been a consistent centerpiece in the Suns’ recent run, yet still has plenty of attackable value at the books. Awesemo’s projection has Booker finishing with 5.3 rebounds tonight, a 61% chance of going over this total. The xROI on OddsShopper is 28% and getting the +110 return from the book. Booker just went over this number on Wednesday in the Suns win over the Warriors.

Dillon Brooks Over 21.5 Points: -105 (DraftKings)

Not everyone is sitting tonight for the Grizzlies, most notably Dillon Brooks. Normally coming off the bench for a scoring role, Brooks should see an increase in minutes and shot volume against the Suns. Awesemo has Brooks finishing with 22.4 points, good enough for OddsShopper having a 54% chance of going over the total. This should get bumped up even more once the Grizzlies officially rule out four starters. Brooks put up two straight games of 21 points, but the clear difference tonight is having fewer scoring options around him.

Jae Crowder Over 1.5 3-Pointers: -135 (DraftKings)

Crowder’s 3-point total is one make lower than it should be, and both OddsShopper and Awesemo have caught wind. This is a fantastic spot to smash Crowder as a solo play, or use him in an same-game parlay, like with Bridges one-plus 3’s. Crowder is picking up slack where both Bridges and Booker are not knocking down as many 3’s. Awesemo has Crowder finishing with two made 3’s, combined with OddsShopper giving this a 60% chance of hitting. Crowder has also gone over the 1.5 makes in three straight games.
