NFL Futures Bets + NFL Odds: 2020 Carolina Panthers Over/Under Win Total 5.5 | NFL Picks

The 2020 NFL season is coming in hot, which means your betting card for the season needs a double-check. We’re going to be going over a copious amount of NFL futures bets, NFL odds, NFL betting picks and NFL predictions for the 2020 campaign. Sportsbooks have released win totals for every team, and we’re going to examine strengths, weaknesses, schedules and make predictions on the over/under. Right now, we’re looking at the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers quarterback position was pretty abysmal last season, but that surely did not slow down Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey has the talent to haul in 1,000 yards to go with the 1,000 yards he certainly will get on the ground by Thanksgiving. D.J. Moore had a fantastic season as well so all they were missing was a consistent signal-caller. Most teams are hopeful to find a future franchise type of player. The Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater to be their next guy that should help turn the page into a new era under Matt Rhule. One of the bigger pickups was bringing in LSU passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Joe Brady. The offense should not struggle too much moving the ball, especially with the addition of Robby Anderson at wide receiver. It is the defensive side of the things that are worrisome. Luke Kuechly retired from the NFL after a fabulous career, and the franchise selected monstrous defensive lineman Derrick Brown.

Strengths

The offensive skill players are much better than their record indicates, but this Panther squad has a few fantasy stars. McCaffrey is the easy choice as the top selection in all fantasy leagues, and Moore is a sure-fire top-30 pick in PPR leagues as well. The talent is there to move the chains and hit some home runs. They even have a respectable and healthy quarterback to get them the ball as well. A new, energetic coaching staff should give this team the drive it will need in the near future to make major improvements in the win column.

Weaknesses

The defense had a ton of blown assignments and chunk plays given up in the NFC South last season. Carolina gave up the second most points in the NFL just under 30 a game, which is something that must change in 2020. The secondary has some young talent that will need to blossom. Tre Boston and Donte Jackson are capable players that have bright futures, but the talent level they will be going up against is the toughest in the NFL. The lack of a true pass rush should make life tough on that young secondary. If you give any quarterback in the NFL time to throw, they will dissect you like Peyton Manning.

Schedule

This is going to be rough. Half of the schedule could be against playoff teams, which does not bode well for Matt Rhule in year one. The other half isn’t impossible, but there will be a handful of those games in which they are not favored in. On paper, three wins is going to be tough. The division is top notch, and despite a last-place schedule, drawing the AFC West isn’t exactly getting an advantage. The Chiefs and Broncos could hang a handful of scores on the Panthers defense, so this is a case where I have no confidence due to a tough schedule.

Prediction

2011 was the last time we saw the Panthers at a win total even near 5.5. This team has offensive talent, but they will need their role players to really show out. Curtis Samuel is a youngster that was oftentimes used as a runner when he played college ball at Ohio State. Anderson is a deep threat that could provide help, but I am not the biggest fan of Bridgewater. Some believe he can be an All-Pro, but I am not buying into that. Throw in a questionable offensive line, and this team has their work cut out for them. The 5.5-win total is tough for me to go over on. I could take the under and get plus money NFL odds at around 110 by most outlets, including OddsShopper. The expectations for some is that there will be much improvement due to improved quarterback play. It doesn’t work quite that easily. The division ranks right there with the AFC North as the top divisions in football. Throw in extra juice to take the over for wins, and I still don’t see much value for this squad. They are looking at a 1-5 or 0-6 record in the division. I will gladly sell and take the under with a schedule that ranks among the toughest on paper in my book.
