NHL Betting Picks: Saturday’s Best Bets + Odds

The Ottawa-Winnipeg Game (Yes, the North!)

Ottawa Senators vs Winnipeg Jets  The one thing that Ottawa and Winnipeg do is give up goals. Ottawa is far more guilty of doing so than the Jets. Overall, the Jets have allowed just 2.69 goals per game compared to Ottawa’s 4.2. That 4.2 is the worst in the NHL and Ottawa is 25th on the penalty kill and 27th when it comes to minor penalty minutes taken. The Jets are still in the bottom third when it comes to penalty killing though. Ottawa is fourth in the league when it comes to shots on net at 32.1 per contest.

Ottawa suffers from awful goaltending whether it is Matt Murray or Marcus Hogberg. However, they have shown some flashes lately of playing a little better. That has often come in games where the shot and chance volume tilted quickly.

The Jets are 6-2-1 at home on the season while the Senators are just 1-7 on the road. Can Ottawa keep the score down enough with that 6.5 over/under dangling?

The Latest Sports Betting Content from Stokastic Odds

Winnipeg’s offense is clicking at a clip of 3.54 goals per game which is 5th in the NHL. However, that 11.9% shooting percentage seems a little high. Could there be a bit of regression today with a mid-afternoon start? These teams do get a little sloppy where the offense usually suffers.

Currently, the puckline for Winnipeg is hovering near +114. If that can creep up say between +115 and +120, that might be worth a look. However, if it drops to +110 or worse, then do not even bother.

The over/under looks to be best value in this game. The under of 6.5 is at -120 and relatively steady. That may only be an option if it stays near -120 to -125. There is also an over 6 option but that may be too dicey. This is because it is around -125 to -130. Furthermore, like we mentioned that puckline is still at a plus number.

The under at 6.5 and the Winnipeg puckline at -1.5 are our picks.

The 4pm ET Game

San Jose Sharks vs VEGAS GOLDEN KNIGHTS  (puckline) — Again, the puckline is somehow at +130. San Jose has a penchant for giving up goals in waves. They allowed 3+ goals to Los Angeles with ease in each game of their miniseries. This is a Los Angeles team that is middle of the pack at best offensively. Vegas averages 3.36 goals per game while San Jose allows a whopping 3.75 goals per contest.

The Vegas Golden Knights are playing on the road where they have only twice all season. Now, the Knights have done this with a below average power play that has generated top-ten level chances. That may be the scary part for a vulnerable San Jose team. Martin Jones may be a few more bad starts from being passed through waivers at this juncture. The blame falls not all on him but his rebound control and positioning has been suspect.

The Knights always have a little bit of trouble with San Jose but goals should not be a problem. The Knights will want to get off to a quick start this afternoon, which should increase the pace on both sides. Even looking at the first period over/under may be worth one’s while.

Take the risk with the over here, as it is expected to stay at 6.5. The ideal betting range is around even. If that strays, then do not bet it. The puckline at -1.5 is +130 for Vegas currently. Now, that is our value pick for this afternoon.

Notable Score And Other NHL Betting Picks

The night-game pucklines do not look very appealing at this time. It might be best to wait for numbers to move a bit more. For some anytime goal-scoring props, Nik Ehlers at +200, Pierre-Luc Dubois at +200, and yes maybe look at Max Pacioretty at +125 as well as Evander Kane at +215.

More player props expect to be available later in the day, but among shot totals, look towards the 10pm ET games.
