🎲 PGA Betting Picks: The Honda Classic Outrights & Each-Way Bets | Shane Lowry

Whether you are a pro making your own PGA betting picks or just getting into the game, betting on golf provides a great way to sweat the action. Like most other professional sports, there are plenty of ways you can bet on golf; with outright winners, head-to-head matchups and plenty more, golf betting offers a wide array of PGA odds and wagers. There will certainly be an edge to be found each and every week, and next up is the Honda Classic. The field may be a bit weak, but don’t tell that to Shane Lowry and Joaquin Niemann, who look to pick up a victory here leading into the Masters in a few weeks.

Our PGA betting series consists of three articles:

  • Outrights & Each Way (this one)
  • Head-to-Head Matchups
  • Jason’s Bet of the Day (stole this idea from Awesemo’s own Ben Rasa): Normally in-tournament matchups

Before we dive headfirst into my foursome of picks for this week, I want to make sure that we define terms for those of you who are brand new.

Outright: A bet that is placed on a golfer to win the tournament.

Each Way: A bet that covers a golfer for the top-five, top-10, and top-20 bets offered.

32 Total Picks:

  • Wins: 3
  • Top-5’s: 5
  • Top-10s: 8
  • Top-20s: 16

We will try to make it two weeks in a row where we nail the winner, as the entire industry was on a 20-1 Justin Thomas last week. My continued backing of Tommy Fleetwood didn’t pan out, and my bomb of the week, Nick Taylor, just missed. But getting a win means we could lose every other bet and still profit handily.

PGA Betting Picks: Honda Classic

Joaquin Niemann

Outright: 20-1 | Top 5: 4-1 | Top 10: +175 | Top 20: -110

I am rolling with another 20-1 this week to start our card, as Niemann is the most popular bet industrywide. He is also scheduled to be incredibly highly owned, and with that, I’d like to just bet on him. If he wins, I know it’ll be a profitable week regardless of my DFS play. For me the best way to handle high-priced chalk is to bet them to win, and if they do, I can feel just as satisfied as if he misses the cut. It’s a win-win.

Shane Lowry

Outright: 28-1 | Top 5: 6-1 | Top 10: 3-1 | Top 20: +150

After going through a really rough patch of golf, the defending Open Champion seems like he’s regaining his form a bit after a solid finish at TPC Sawgrass last week. Now competing against a weaker field in conditions that might be perfectly suited for him, Lowry presents a great value as the second golfer on the card this week.

Brendan Steele

Outright: 45-1 | Top 5: 8-1 | Top 10: 4-1 | Top 20: +200

Steele’s performance this year is reminiscent of a past time where he was considered a DFS darling. Back then he was rarely missing cuts, coming inside the top 25 at a high clip and providing nice value week in and week out. The only thing missing from his game is a win, and at a course where he’s performed well before, maybe this is Steele’s week. Granted, it would come at his lowest odds to win yet, but against this field, I still see a ton of value here.

Bomb of the Week: Will Gordon

Outright: 150-1 | Top 5: 25-1 | Top 10: 110-1 | Top 20: 4-1

After disappearing from my content for a few weeks, Gordon is back on it. I like a few guys in this 125-1 range, including Rafa Cabrera Bello, Cameron Percy and former Honda Classic Champion Keith Mitchell, who I think is a great comp for Gordon. When Gordon first broke onto the scene, I thought it would be the birdie fests that he would do well in, but it has actually been the opposite. His best finishes have all come at tougher tracks where par is a good score on most holes. That’s the epitome of this week.
