Expert PGA Golf Betting Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

In this weekly article, Awesemo’s golf experts will give their favorite PGA betting picks, odds and predictions of the week for the 2022 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Ben Rasa’s Pick: Matt Kuchar

Outright: 65-1 (FanDuel)

This number is what stood out first to me, as 65-1 for a proven winner like Matt Kuchar is enticing. Add in that his game seems to have been rejuvenated after a bad 2021 season, and things are looking up. Kuchar played in 2022 at the Sony Open and finished seventh while gaining strokes in every category. Like most golfers in this field, he has plenty of experience at Pebble Beach and this Pro-Am, so nothing about this setup will be unusual to him. The top end of this field is not nearly as strong as last week, and at 65-1 Kuchar is an easy add to the betting card.

Geoff Ulrich’s Pick: Michael Thompson

Outright: 66-1 (BetMGM) | Top 10: +650 (DraftKings)

This is an event where fading the top end of the field is fine. Yes, a player like Jason Day at 20-1 could win, and admittedly I like Day the best among the top options. However, there is a sub-group of players at +6000 or greater who all have very good shots and the styles of game that can compete at Pebble Beach. Michael Thompson is a former No. 1 amateur player in the world who has had great success on the West coast (second at Olympic Club U.S. Open in 2012, 28th at Torrey Pines U.S. Open in 2008 as an amateur) and is coming off an 11th place at Torrey Pines last week. His short game has been gaining him a lot of strokes around the greens, and scrambling is always a factor on Pebble Beach’s small greens. Two top-12 finishes in three starts to begin the year show he is trending well, and he has played Pebble Beach numerous times, with a 10th place as recently as 2019. The +6700 on offer looks decent enough for an outright

Eric Lindquist: Aaron Rai

Outright: 80-1 (DraftKings) | Top 10: +650

Coming off three consecutive top-20s to finish out 2021, I expected big things from Rai in 2022. After a lackluster start to season with no signs of the form that made him a two-time European Tour winner across the pond, the Englishman emerged in a big way at Torrey Pines. He gained strokes in every category across the board, including a whopping 6.3 tee to green. If his short game can stay in tact on the smaller Pebble Beach putting surfaces, Rai is the sort of player that could emerge from the mid-range for a surprise victory.
