The Houston Rockets survived their Round 1 Game 7, and their reward is that they get to face LeBron James and the Lakers. The Rockets have actually beat the Lakers in two of their three meeting this season, but the NBA odds are siding with the well-rested Lakers today.

James Harden and the Rockets survived a poor shooting night from their superstar, narrowly getting a Game 7 win. It’s to be lauded and applauded but not for long, as the short turnaround to face the Lakers tonight is not a matchup that Houston would have preferred. The Rockets want to play an up-and-down, small-ball lineup that shoots from all over the floor. The Lakers play a big lineup that wants to slow it down to a half court game.
If Harden and Russell Westbrook show up to play, Houston has a chance. The Lakers backcourt will struggle to defend these two if they are making their shots. There’s nobody in that Lakers starting lineup than can consistently guard them. Now, there’s nobody on the entire Rockets team that can guard Anthony Davis. He is a matchup nightmare for Houston, and he will likely have a very, very good series. A 30-point double-double is in the cards for Davis tonight, especially after nearly a week of rest.
One of the wins Houston has against the Lakers this season was against a LeBron-less team, so that one doesn’t count. The other was an earned win, where they shot 50.6% from the field and 45.2% from deep. Honestly, that is the kind of efficiency they will need to win this game since I don’t believe they have the defense to stop the Lakers. I think the Rockets will have at least one of those games in them this series, but there’s no telling if that will be today or later on.
