With both Patrick Cantlay (+1200) and Jon Rahm (+1800) still lurking in the tournament, backing them for the first time all week would give you their best numbers yet. Rahm, sitting just five back, could quite easily shoot 64, something done twice already this week at the stadium course, and post a number too low for anyone to reach.
PGA Odds and Betting Picks: The American Express
Top Candidate: Harold Varner — 16-1
The pre-tournament odds-to-win number is way better than what we are seeing for most people ranked inside the top 10 heading into Sunday. It shows the variability we’ve had over the first three rounds of the event and is indicative of whose on top of the leaderboard. So, while the 16/1 number may not sound great for Varner, considering his 65/1 number pre-market, his game is trending in the right direction. He finished with a 32 on the back nine today, something that that if he matches again, might just be enough to get I’m his first PGA Tour victory. Backing Cantlay, Rahm and Varner for tomorrow’s slate should get you quite the sweat for an average of a 15/1 payout.
Value: Harry Higgs — 22-1
The new big beautiful, Harry, has taken the mantle from John Daly as one of the biggest and most likable characters on the PGA Tour. He’s got himself in the mix again, something he’s done a few times in his short career but never been able to get over the hump and get a win. Sitting just three back to start the day, Higgs presents some of the best value of golfers that are in a tie for 5th or better. Either he or Francesco Molinari are the same odds right now.
Deep Shot: Adam Svensson– 250-1
Anyone that is below Rahm and/or Cantlay heading into the final round sees their odds tow-in jump drastically. It makes sense, as the theory would be that if they were to make a run, so would either Cantlay or Rahm. Svensson game is simmering, with a tie for 7th last week at the Sony Open and another great start over the first three rounds this week. He showed resiliency on the stadium course today; whenever he made a bogey, he’d make a birdie. In total, he shot 68 on the day while not having his best stuff off the tee. If he brings that tomorrow, he could make a run at the top of the board.
