NFL Picks Thursday Night football

The offensive displays on Thursday Night football have been brutal of late, but tonight’s Falcons – Panthers should buck that trend. With a close spread (Carolina -1.5) and a high total (51.5), all signs point towards an aerial shootout to kick off Week 8. That would generally lend me to bet on some unders as props are generally inflated for higher totals, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with these Carolina receivers.

Let’s start with Robby Anderson, the Panthers wide receiver who seems to have the most chemistry with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater through the first seven weeks of the season. Over that span, Anderson is producing like a true No. 1 option, averaging 8.4 catches for 91.4 yards per game. That makes you scratch your head looking at a number like 73.5 on the board from Vegas, especially considering his eight catches for 112 against this very same Atlanta team in Week 5.

With only one game so far this season where Anderson has failed to eclipse the 74-yard mark, and facing a grotesque Atlanta secondary, I’m happy to lay the juice on this number to lock in 73.5. However, if you feel secure in Anderson eclipsing 80 yards receiving (I sure do), you can trade in two yards (75.5) for substantially better odds at SugarHouse or DraftKings (-125). That’s what I plan on doing, as Awesemo’s 90-yard projection for Anderson has me firmly on the side of the over here.

NFL Pick: D.J. Moore OVER 67.5 Yards

I know I just said Anderson was the No. 1 option, so why go here too? Quite simply, I love the 67.5 number on a receiver who is starting to come alive as this season progresses. D.J. Moore has posted exactly 93 yards receiving in Carolina’s previous three games, and this is another fishy number I want to be firmly on the side of the over.

There are two major reasons I’m just fine double-dipping with Anderson and Moore. First of all, despite Atlanta’s abysmal 1-6 start, their potent passing attack just got Julio Jones back to health in Week 6 after hip and hamstring issues lingered the beginning of his season. That should mean more production for the Falcons, hence more opportunity for this game to go back-and-forth.

Secondly, Moore is a big-play guy who only needs one or two deep balls to return value. We saw that last week, as Moore was hit in stride with a 74-yard stripe in the second quarter against New Orleans for the first of his two touchdowns. While we can’t pencil outlier plays like that in for Moore in this spot, there is no denying his potential for chunks of yardage, even with limited targets. So while betting Anderson and Moore together might seem uncorrelated, I’m willing to pay the price for both props against Atlanta’s heavy pass-funnel defense. Bet a single unit on the over here too.
