⛳ PGA DFS Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM Round 2 l Akshay Bhatia

Thursday was by far the most on-brand PGA DFS day that I’ve ever had. My two horses ended the day in first and fourth place in the tournament, and two of my young guns are in the mix as well, with Akshay Bhatia tied for second. On top of that, the guy who started it all for me, Brian Stuard, is also in the mix. My goodness. Round two of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM has interesting action coming up on both DraftKings and FanDuel, and we have some great PGA DFS picks on the board, including all of my favorites.

Of course, I decided to skip out on round one showdown contests, so to the victor go the spoils. Let’s see if my 150 week-long Patrick Cantlay/Jordan Spieth lines can propel me to the top.

PGA DFS Picks: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM

Previous Round Recap

Pebble Beach Golf Links:

It has been rainy lately in the Pebble Beach area, and it showed on the extremely receptive greens today. The rough was also down quite a bit, and even the dampness of it didn’t stop golfers from getting their ball to stop where they wanted it on the green. Of golfers in the top-10, the only score that didn’t come from Pebble Beach today was William Gordon. The rest, including a 62 by Patrick Cantlay, Bhatia’s career-low 64 and Spieth’s 65, all came from the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links.

We did have strokes gained stats for the golfers, and I’m happy to report that Speith gained in every single category, including off the tee, where he hit 64% of his fairways. A few other golfers were able to gain strokes in all four facets, including: Henrik Norlander, Brian Stuard, Tom Lewis, Brandon Hagy and Ryan Moore.

Pebble played at 1.7 shots under par for the day, while Spyglass Hill played 0.4 shots over par, for essentially a two-shot difference. With windy conditions expected tomorrow, that gap should shrink, giving an edge to the Pebble Spyglass rotation.

Spyglass Hill

I just mentioned the fact that Gordon’s score of 66 today was the only top-10 score from the course, as Spieth’s comments about the greens seem to really play into effect. Daniel Berger was also able to keep pace, even on a more challenging course, which makes him quite dangerous. Paul Casey was part of featured group coverage, along with Max Homa, and they both looked sharp, with Casey shooting 68 and Homa 69.

General Strategy and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM PGA DFS Picks

The wind will absolutely wreak havoc out there tomorrow, and with Pebble Beach a bit more exposed to that element, it’s possible that the scoring averages from yesterday will flip. If that’s the case, we don’t’ want to avoid Spyglass, as we would have in today’s round.

Top-10

With Cantlay breaking course records, Spieth looking like he’s back, and with Gordon and Bhatia chasing?! Oh my. I should self-exclude for this slate. I’ll obviously be starting my lineups with more Spieth/Cantlay.

I also like Mark Hubbard quite a bit, he didn’t miss a fairway all day. Lewis is also intriguing as a low-owned play, but he will be heading to what’s expected to be the more difficult course on Friday. I would also give quite a few shares to Stuard on both DraftKings and FanDuel, so between these three, I’ll have at least one in each of my lineups.

PGA DFS Pick Outside the Top 10

Max Homa ($8,500)

Another solid day of work out there for Homa, who continues to show impressive form through the West Coast swing. His front nine looked quite wobbly, and his ball-striking stats aren’t reflective of what I saw toward the latter part of his round. He’s heading to Pebble tomorrow for the second round.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 2

Michael Kim ($6,300)

The form continues to find its way back from the depths, the very depths. Like “since last year’s Sony Tournament of Champions, 45 tournaments, either missing the cut, withdrawing, or coming in dead last in a no-cut event” level bad. Yikes. But the first sign of potential change is in the ball striking. The recent trend continued in round one, with Kim gaining almost a stroke and a half on the field. On any given day, the short game can get hot, so why not take a gamble on a guy who clearly has found his stride off the tee and on his approaches, he is a good option for DraftKings and FanDuel GPP play.

DraftKings and FanDuel AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Kevin Streelman ($9,000)
  • Brendan Steele ($7,900)
  • Nick Taylor ($7,400)
  • Aaron Baddeley ($6,500)
