⛳ Against the Grain: PGA DFS Picks for The Honda Cassic on DraftKings & FanDuel | 3/17

The biggest prize in PGA DFS takes a break for a couple of weeks, and we still have massive amounts of money to be won, including $200,000 to first place for the Honda Classic. This article will take you through four distinct pricing categories and talk specifically about ownership among them. I will of course cover some of my favorite against-the-grain fantasy golf picks in each range for DraftKings and FanDuel.

Fantasy Golf Picks for The Honda Classic

PGA DFS Picks: $9,000 and Above

  • 10 Golfers
  • Total ownership of around 190%

It takes a special occasion for a player to project at or somewhere north of 35% and close to 40% ownership. This week we have it with Daniel Berger coming in as the odds favorite and not the most expensive golfer on the slate. Plus, his odds would suggest his price be more in the $11,500 range, so it seems gamers are able to easily click his name this week.

It doesn’t dip off much with Sungjae Im or Joaquin Niemann. Niemann and Im could both end up with odds just as high as Berger’s, as they are currently 13-1. Coming off of his best start in some time, Shane Lowry is also getting a ton of attention this week, while Russell Henley, Talor Gooch, Cameron Tringale and Chris Kirk should all be owned around 15%. There are only two more golfers to talk about: Lee Westwood and Adam Scott. Lee is possibly in the midst of the best two weeks of his life, while Scott doesn’t seem to be in top form.

The problem with Scott and Westwood is they aren’t even going to be that low-owned, projecting somewhere around 10%. I’ll try to use leverage elsewhere rather than forcing Scott or Westwood in a lineup.

PGA DFS Picks: Nos. 11-32 Priced Golfers ($8,900-$7,500)

  • 25 Golfers
  • Total ownership 200%

There are 25 golfers in this section this week and plenty of against-the-grain options to choose from. Still, there are a few ownership pockets like Brendan Steele, who seems to make the most sense this week given his course history, recent form and price against this field. Others that have performed well on this track will also get plenty of attention, including Cameron Davis and Wyndham Clark. Luke List applies here as well, but he shouldn’t be as highly owned as the other two. Patton Kizzire, Kevin Streelman and J.T. Poston round out the golfers projected over 10% in this range.

There are still plenty of names here, including two at the top of the list: Rickie Fowler and Doug Ghim. One can’t get to Sunday, and the other can’t play on it. Something has to break for this talented pair, and both are projected around 5%. Matt Wallace, Martin Kaymer and Dylan Frittelli are a trio of interesting names, and not one of them will get over 5% owned this week. I like them all in this spot. Michael Thompson and Erik van Rooyen are a couple of names down the salary board that I also like.

PGA DFS Picks: The Rest ($7,400 and Below)

  • 102 golfers
  • Total ownership 210%

The last few weeks, we haven’t seen many golfers from this price range get over 10% owned, but that won’t be the case this week. Matt Jones, Jhonattan Vegas, Adam Long, John Huh, Tom Hoge, Richy Werenski and Zach Johnson are all going to approach and/or cross, the 10% number. I think a lot of them make sense. Vegas’ and Long’s play at The Players and their good history at PGA National match up nicely. Johnson hasn’t missed a cut in quite a while, and the other four have played well recently. With over 90 golfers still to choose from, only a handful of them will get over 5%. Some of the names I like down here this week are:

  • Keith Mitchell
  • Will Gordon
  • Harry Higgs
  • Wesley Bryan
  • Kristoffer Ventura
  • Stewart Cink
  • Kelly Kraft
  • C.T. Pan
  • Scott Stallings
  • Rory Sabbatini
  • Jamie Lovemark
