They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first place on average. FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. PGA DFS Showdown: American Express Round Three

Previous Round Recap

Nicklaus Course

After one of the best scores on the Stadium Course in round one, Tony Finau backed up the performance with one of the best rounds on the Nicklaus Course in round two. Abraham Ancer followed suit, beating Finau by one. Now, two of the pre-tourney studs have a chance to win their first tournament on the PGA Tour. They trail the young phenom from South Korea, Sungjae Im, however. Im’s countryman Si Woo Kim continued his good form with a 68. Other notables in round two on the Nicklaus Course were Francesco Molinari who all of a sudden is back in contention on the tour, after a 66 on Friday.

Stadium Course

We just mentioned Sungjae Im, but now it’s time to mention Nick Taylor, who for the second straight week is in the top two heading into Saturday. Brandon Hagy the overnight leader had a late bogey, and also sits at ten under after a 70. Making a move up the board today from the Stadium Course was Emiliano Grillo, who shot 66, which tied with Taylor for second-best on the day. John Huh and Brendan Steele both shot four-under 68 for the second straight day and sit in a tie for 10th.

The course scoring averages flipped in round two, with the Nicklaus course averaging shy of .42 under par while the Stadium course scoring average was 71.

General Strategy and American Express PGA DFS Picks

The American Express moves entirely to the Stadium Course for the remaining two days, but that shouldn’t stop the low scoring. Any golfer who made the cut this week is only seven back. Given how easy this golf course has played, those that sit at four-under might need to post something lower than 63 to get themselves back in it, but that is a semi-realistic score on a course that can yield it.

Top-10

There are so many quality names for this tournament that are in the top-10, a lot of them are my favorite golfers. Ancer looks great, and that’s no surprise, as does Finau. Then there’s Sungjae Im, who finally has the putter rolling, and Si Woo Kim who has been incredibly consistent. It is tough to pick between them right now.

I also love Grillo who gained thru the bag in round two, which is an incredibly good sign that you can sign me up for more of. Brendan Steele also looks great, gaining over three strokes on his approaches on the day, but he couldn’t quite get his putter going. However, he has been hot with the flat stick lately, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see that bounce back over the weekend.

PGA DFS Picks Outside the Top 10

  • Matt Jones ($7,500) The second straight week that Jones has himself in good shape heading into the weekend, as his form looks to be in good shape to start this season. His ball-striking was on point in round one, gaining almost two strokes, and while we don’t’ have data for round two, it looks to be something similar, as he’s hit 73% of his greens through the first half of the tournament.
  • Will Gordon ($6,300) Now that he made the cut, Gordon can cut it lose, and rack up those DFS points. He had to make interesting, with a late bogey in his round, forcing him to play the last three holes at even par. He made it through the gauntlet however, and now there is no reason avoid him at these levels. There is clear ability to light up the leaderboard in a hurry. He gaining nicely with both his irons and his putter on the Stadium Course today, a good sign for the weekend.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round Three

Ryan Armour ($6,300)

I talked about Armour this week, mentioning that his putter last week was a good sign for future results. So far, that call has been on point. He’s t-18 heading into the weekend, gaining in every strokes gained facet, including off the tee. Both he and Gordon will let you get pretty much any four other golfers you want for the third round slate. Armour’s 97% driving accuracy doesn’t hurt. Wow.

DraftKings and FanDuel American Express Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Patrick Cantlay ($10,400)
  • Rickie Fowler ($8,200)
  • James Hahn ($7,300)
  • Gary Woodland ($7,200)
