PGA DFS Showdown Picks: John Deere Classic Round 4

Previous Round Recap

An unusual set of circumstances led to threesomes and split tees, the first time we have seen that on the weekend in a few weeks. That lead to action coming in fast and furious. Evidenced by Scott Brown, who parlays his hole-in-one from last week in Detriot into another good week this week and has a chance to further break the curse of the Puerto Rico Open. Sebastian Munoz took back the lead, however, as he continues his good form all the way from Thursday’s opening round. His combo of putting and approach play has worked out superbly this week. The same can be said for Brandon Hagy. However, Hagy has leaned on his off the tee game a bit more.

Speaking of leaning on their driver Cameron Champ has gained almost six strokes in three rounds off the tee, and another six with his putter, getting it done the “Dylan Frittelli” way. Kevin Na, the master of losing strokes tee to green but still being able to win a golf tournament, also finds himself in a position to win again on the PGA Tour, playing masterful on and around the green this week. In all twenty-two, golfers are within in five of the lead heading into Sunday.

John Deere Classic Round 4 PGA DFS Picks

With positional points adding in yet another variable, we’ll aim to diversify down the leaderboard a bit and find a golfer that’s likely to post a good number tomorrow while being lower owned in daily fantasy golf.

  • Chesson Hadley ($8,500) In the mix again after just missing out at the Palmetto Championship a few weeks back, Hadley’s iron game deserted him today. But I’m going to gamble and pay up for a guy I don’t think many people will turn to, given who is priced around him. Guys like Ryan Moore & Chez Reavie are well inside the top 10 compared to Hadley, sitting in a tie for 22nd.
  • Maverick McNealy ($7,700)  A bad finish to round one for McNealy is the only thing preventing him from being a lot closer to the lead than he is now. He’s played his last 36 holes at thirteen under, getting it done in all facets. I’m sure this doesn’t fit the mold of lower-owned picks, but I like him regardless of ownership tomorrow.
  • Jason Dufner ($7,500) Body by Dufner doesn’t find himself on the top of many leaderboards lately, but he’s still good for a few quality starts a year. If he wants to make the playoffs this year, he’ll need a big-time Sunday tomorrow at the John Deere. He’s one of the leaders in approach on the week, so if he can get hot with the putter one round, we’ll get the payoff, as will he.

Sneaky Pick for the Round 4 Showdown

  • Rafa Cabrera Bello ($6,800)  Springing to life in round three, gaining over three strokes with his approaches, Rafa sits in a very similar spot to Dunfer, in 168th in the FedEx Cup standings. To get his job back for next year and have playing ability in just about any tournament, he needs to come in the top 125. A Top 5 tomorrow would go a long way to that.
