Fantasy Golf Picks This Week: 2022 Masters PGA DFS Optimizer Picks

After months of anticipation, the PGA travels to Augusta National Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards, Bentgrass greens) this week for the first major of the season, the Masters. Taking home the green jacket last year at 10 under, Hideki Matsuyama is the defending champion. He was terrific with his irons and avoided the large numbers on his scorecard, which are the primary ingredients for success at Augusta National. Both Matsuyama and 2020 champion Dustin Johnson ranked top-five in both greens found and bogeys avoided during their Master wins. Both DraftKings and FanDuel have massive GPPs available for this major and below you will find some of the top fantasy golf picks this week from the DFS PGA optimizer and the Awesemo Top Golfer Tool for the Masters.

Best Fantasy Golf Picks This Week for The Masters

Leverage scores are a product of comparing a player’s ownership versus their salary weighted odds to finish in the top six of the tournament, based on Awesemo’s PGA DFS projections.

Rory McIlroy

Awesemo PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 7.5%, FanDuel: 7.7%

Ignore that McIlroy missed the cut at the Valero last week and expect him to bounce back with a high finish at Augusta. Prior to last week’s speedbump, McIlroy had made 11 consecutive cuts with five top-10 finishes coming during this stretch, most notably with a win at the CJ Cup.

Over his last 36 rounds, McIlroy ranks seventh in strokes gained tee to green, fifth in strokes gained off the tee and ninth in birdie-or-better percentage. Plus, he has finished inside the top 10 in six of his past eight appearances at Augusta National and ranks fifth in this field in career strokes gained at the par 72. With the Awesemo PGA DFS ownership projections having McIlroy to be less than 5% owned on both DraftKings and FanDuel, he is the best way to gain leverage in large tournaments this week.

Awesemo golf betting experts Ben Rasa and Eytan Shander will be coming to you every week on the OddsShopper YouTube Channel with the Putting for Dough golf betting show, where they give you their expert PGA picks and predictions for the week. This week, they are giving their free golf betting picks for the 2022 Masters.

Shane Lowry

Awesemo PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 5%, FanDuel: 2.2%

Lowry has been playing great golf recently and is inexplicably projected to come with single-digit ownership on both DraftKings and FanDuel. He did not advance out of his pool at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, but this format has never been his strong suit. Before this tournament, Lowry had finished second, 12th and 13th at his previous three standard stroke-play events. This season Lowry has been one of the top iron players on tour, ranking 11th in strokes gained on approach. Furthermore, Lowry has been tremendous at staying out of trouble, ranking third in bogey avoidance, setting him up perfectly for his return to Augusta National.

Lowry has carded a top-25 finish at each of the last two Masters and has made 10 cuts in a row at the major level. At similar price points on both sites, Lowry is the perfect pivot off the chalky Daniel Berger, who is expected to be one of the top 10 most rostered golfers of the week on both DraftKings and FanDuel in Awesemo’s Fantasy Golf ownership projections.

Stewart Cink

Awesemo PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 5.5%, FanDuel: 5.7%

Cink travels to Augusta on the heels of an impressive seventh-place finish at the Valspar Championship. He ranked seventh in strokes gained on approach and finished with only two bogeys for the entire tournament, which was the fewest bogeys recorded by any player that made that cut at the Copperhead Course. As noted above, strong iron play and bogey avoidance are essential if you want to contend at Augusta National. If Cink can in anyway carry over this momentum to the Masters, he should easily pay off his near minimum salaries.

Cink has produced a notable 12 top-30 finishes in 19 career starts at Augusta National and is expected to come with essentially no ownership on either DraftKings or FanDuel according to Awesemo’s DFS Golf ownership projections.

Latest PGA DFS Content

Bubba Watson

Awesemo PGA Optimizer Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 0.8%, FanDuel: 3.1%

Watson is far too cheap for his illustrious resume at Augusta National. He is a two-time winner at the par 72 and has only missed one cut in 13 appearances at the Masters. Additionally, Watson ranks 15th in career strokes gained.

As for results this season, he has barely competed, making two of four cuts at standard stroke-play events. However, he has gained strokes off the tee in three of these four starts, showing fans that Watson’s trusty driver is in solid form. Watson is a -250 favorite to make the cut this week on BetRivers and is a worthwhile cheap gamble for GPPs that is guaranteed to be contrarian.
