PGA DFS Golf Picks: The Farmers Insurance Open Round 3

Round 1-2 Recap

South Course

Scoring average of 73.24

Billy Horschel looked poised to continue to put the pedal down after a great Round 1 but would fail to shoot another under-par round. Sungjae Im, however, would tie the low at this course, with a 66 on the day, gaining over six strokes with his short game on the round. Aaron Rai and Sahith Theegala have put themselves into position heading into the weekend to have their best PGA Tour finish ever after shooting a four-under 68 on the South Course today. Other solid scores from the South Course include Ryan Plamer, Bill Haas, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Camilio Villegas, and Patrick Rodgers.

North Course

Scoring Average of 68.5 or -3.5

All eyes would be on Jon Rahm in Round 2, after opening with a course low 66 on the South Course on Friday. Rahm would play well again, but Justin Thomas would play slightly better, shooting 63 to Rahm’s 65, as they both sit at thirteen under through two rounds. They are joined by Adam Schenk, who shot his best round as a PGA Tour pro, with a 10-under 62 on the day. Alex Smalley also joined Schenk at that number, 62, as the North Course played more like a pitch and putt today. Other rounds of note include Jason Day, who looks to continue his reemergence after a very difficult year.

Best PGA DFS Golf Picks Today for DraftKings Showdown

Although it should be obvious, it bears worth repeating the North Course played three shots easier than the South Course today. Targeting golfers that play that course should be a given, so here are a few golfers playing there tomorrow, outside of Rahm.

  • Xander Schauffele ($9,600): Part of the featured group’s coverage today, Schauffele struggled with his ball-striking from the get-go. After knocking it down the middle of the fairway, Schauffele proceeded to flare his wedge shot into the bunker and made bogey. That set the tone for the day; however, he was able to scrape through the cut-line and play the weekend. Going out in the fourth group out tomorrow, he’ll have a chance to make a run up the leaderboard well before the others even tee off. Also, given how far down the board he is, many gamers will look the other way after a poor ball-striking day in Round 2. A flip in the iron play and strong momentum with the putter could make a perfect low-owned play for the slate.
  • Luke List ($8,100): It was another good start in the making here at Torrey Pines for List, who comes into the week riding high on form with three straight finishes inside the Top 22. He’s put his infamous ball-striking stats on display, hitting 75% of his greens through the first two rounds. He also led the field in strokes gained putting on the south course in Round 1, showing his comfort level on these greens. There’s no need to fade List, who is heading into the weekend with a ton of momentum.
  • Jason Day ($7,500): 2021 was far from Jason Day’s year, but when you look into it a bit and see that he had only two Top-10s in the entire calendar year, it puts it into even more perspective. But, early on here in 2022, things are looking much better. His short game has returned to form, and his iron play looks sharp. His off the tee game isn’t bad either, but it seems like his swing changes will affect that the most, as he tries to swing without so much ferocity. He’s in a range of a ton of solid golfers but is standing out the most, along with Francesco Molinari.
  • Aaron Rai ($6,800) Coming over from the European Tour, we know Rai had a ton of game and a personality to go with it. One of the only golfers on the PGA Tour to use iron covers, and at times wearing two gloves, Rai has a unique way of doing it. But, after gaining almost five strokes ball striking in Round 2, Rai seems to be back in form, similar to what we saw to end the season last year, where he posted three straight Top 20s. That seems to be in the cards again this week.
