Fantasy Golf: PGA DFS Picks Houston Open | Form From Past 11 Weeks

One hundred thirty-two players are scheduled to tee it up this week with a cut after 36 holes. The deeper field brings about much better recent form, as 50 golfers have at least one top 10 in the last 11 weeks. Compare that to under 20 last week. Only two golfers in the field haven’t had a start in the last 11 weeks. Let’s dig into those numbers.

Positive

Top 10s

He may not have been able to tee it up for the last six weeks, but Dustin Johnson is the only golfer in the field to have four or more top 10s in the past 11 weeks. Five golfers in the field check in with three, including James Hahn, Russell Henley, Tyrrell Hatton, Mackenzie Hughes and Ollie Schniederjans. Eight additional golfers have two top 10s, including Tony Finau, Stewart Cink, Doc Redman and Denny McCarthy.

Mackenzie Hughes has three Top-10 finishes to his name already this swing season. He is checking in at +750 PGA odds for another T10, which could be a pretty enticing wager to make based on his recent form noted by Jason Rouslin. Top 25s

Lee Westwood has been the model of consistency lately, having finished inside the top 25 six times in the past 11 weeks, but only one of those starts has wound up in a top-10 finish. Hatton is the only other one with five. Another nine golfers have four, including most of the names we already mentioned. Two we haven’t are Viktor Hovland and Hideki Matsuyama.

Cuts

Eighteen golfers in the field have made a paycheck in each of their starts over the last 11 weeks. Brian Harman and Westwood are the only two golfers to have teed it up seven times that have made every cut. A couple of others have six, including Hovland, Emiliano Grillo and Beau Hossler.

Trending Up

  • After missing the cut at the Safeway Open, Erik van Rooyen has made three straight cuts with three top 30s, including one top 10.
  • After returning from COVID with three sub-par weeks, Scottie Scheffler had his best start, coming in 17th.
  • Hossler has made six straight cuts, as I just mentioned, with a 26th in last week’s event.
  • Henley and Hahn are working off of four top 10s in their last four starts combined.
  • Dylan Frittelli, after missing two of three cuts to start the new season, bounced back with an 11th-place finish at the Zozo. It marks three straight made cuts for him after that rough patch, which including those two missed cuts.

Negative

Top 10s

Seven golfers in the field have at least seven starts in the last 11 weeks, with two of them having eight (Sungjae Im and Mark Hubbard) and none of them have a top 10 over the past 11 weeks. The other five are Harman, Tom Hoge, Tyler Duncan, Carlos Ortiz and Kyoung-Hoon Lee.

Top 25s

Of those names, only Duncan and Lee don’t have a top 25 on their card. Other names with no top 25s in the last 11 weeks include Jason Day, Will Gordon, Keith Mitchell, Jordan Spieth, Kevin Tway and Max Homa.

Cuts

Michael Kim is the only one playing this week that has five missed cuts in five starts over the last 11 weeks. Even Bo Hoag, who also has five missed cuts, has been able to earn a paycheck once. Graham DeLaet, Bo Van Pelt and Martin Trainer haven’t been lucky enough to find the weekend in their four tries over the last 11 weeks.

Trending Down

  • Both Pat Perez and Henrik Stenson had a nice start six weeks, coming in 21st place, but since then it has been three missed cuts and two withdraws. They are both heading in the wrong direction.
  • After his third-place finish eight weeks ago, Brian Stuard has cooled off quite a bit, missing his last three cuts.
  • Henrik Norlander sprung to life five weeks ago, coming in fourth, but it’s been a 58th and a missed cut since then.
  • Tom Lewis has missed three of four cuts since his big second-place finish at the FedEx St. Jude. His one made cut saw him finishing in 43rd.
