Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely will not have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. This section will identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Last Week’s Recap

With just six holes left for the leaders, I witnessed my name in the top 10 of both the $5 and $10 on DraftKings. That’s when Mito Pereria decided to throw up a 265 yard three wood and have it land just three feet from the pin and tap in for eagle. He’d make another couple of birdies on his way in to crush those lineups. They both finished inside the top 50, but not good enough.

PGA DFS Picks This Week | WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

The Weather

Absolutely ideal conditions this week in Memphis, 84, sunny, with little wind. A perfect reason to host the first leg of the playoffs here starting next year.

The Favorites

All of my favs are here this week in this no-cut 66 man field. Not only are the two main golfers playing some of the best of anyone in the world, but another in Patrick Cantlay will be on the lower owned side. Expect to see a good portion of my allocations for these two. The overweight position in both Collin Morikawa & Jordan Spieth will take away some ownership from other popular players. To see exactly where I rank all of them in my GPP exposures, in addition to the ChalkZone section, check out Awesemo’s PGA Pro Plays!

Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel

  • Total expected player pool: 66
  • Expected number of lineups created: 300
  • Main Lineups:
    • DraftKings $200

Scottie Scheffler ($9,100/$10,500)

The problem this year when I’ve decided to roster Scottie, as it’s been on the easy field, easy tournament events. Where he’s flourished? Against the best fields and I haven’t decided to play him.

Matthew Fitzpatrick ($8,800/$10,000)

Deciding to go very balanced and skip out on Spieth or Morikawa in my main lineup this week would have landed me squarely on Fitzpatrick. But, since I’m stacking them, I’m using Fitzpatrick in a lot of my GPP lineups this week, clicking his name first and building around him.

Joaquin Niemann ($8,400/$9,600)/ Abraham Ancer ($8,300/$9,500)/Corey Conners ($8,100/$9,300)/Tommy Fleetwood ($8,000/$9,200)/ Cameron Smith ($8,200/$9,700)

It’s very much atypical that I like five golfers all priced right next to each other, but that is the case this week. All of them played well last week, well enough that they seem like great value at these price levels. For Niemann, a missed ten-footer for birdie on 18 kept him out of the big 7-way tie for the bronze medal spot. For Smith, a closing bogey on 18 kept him out of it, while Fleetwood & Ancer just couldn’t get it going on Sunday to be a part of that conversation. Lastly, for Conners, he finally got it going on Sunday but couldn’t get it going the first few rounds to get him into contention. All of the golfers are significantly cheaper than last week and present similar upside at these prices.

For the lineup building, I’m going to be mixing in two or three of these golfers with the higher-priced Spieth & Morikawa while dipping down low for the remaining two spots.

Sergio Garcia ($7,300/$8,600)

Leading the field in strokes gained tee to green a few weeks ago, well that’s all I need to get behind him this week at depressed prices. I’d much rather play him at 7300, knowing how good he is tee to green right now, than play Webb Simpson who will have to rely on his putting to play well here this week.

Gambles Below $7,000 this week

Cam Davis ($6,800/$7,800) and Cameron Champ ($6,700/$8,400)

The two cams sit atop my ownership dispersion down below 7K this week, along with my big-time long shots in Min Woo Lee ($6,200/$7,200) and Jim Herman ($6,000/$7,000). For Davis, I’ll use him on FanDuel, where he’s much cheaper than Champ, and vice versa on DK. I’ll mix in quite a bit of Sam Burns ($6,900/$8,600) on DraftKings, while in this spot on FanDuel mixing in Max Homa ($6,700/$7,500).

Of all of these golfers listed, Sam Burns has the most projected points at 70.7 this week. Check out the rest of the field’s projections here.

Awesemo's Top Golfer Tool is an Ace Since golf performances are largely uncorrelated between one golfer and the next, aside from weather impacts, a good way to view a PGA DFS lineup is as a parlay, where you have to hit all 6 picks to hit. The Awesemo Top Golfer Tool gives you the probabilities that each golfer will finish top 6, as well as their 25%, 50%,and 75% results as a benchmark for how you can expect each golfer to perform at the tournament.
