Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation they should receive:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • Favorites: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely will not have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. This section will identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Last Week’s Recap

Having Abraham Ancer as one of the top plays for the week did not help overcome the big fade in Harris English. The main lineup also was a very stars-and-scrubs approach, which did not feature Ancer or English and thus was nowhere near the cash line.

PGA DFS Picks This Week | Wyndham Championship

The Weather

For the second straight week, the PGA Tour will see ideal playing conditions with little to no wind and warm temperatures. It will be low scores all over the place this week.

The Favorites

With only one week left in the regular season, most of the favorites are taking the week off. Brian Harman is here this week, but his play has not been all that great lately, and he comes with a steep salary. As gamers move off of Patrick Reed because of his withdraw, they will probably head down to Harman to start their lineups.

Louis Oosthuizen ($10,700 DraftKings/$11,800 FanDuel)

Oosthuizen has beaten Webb Simpson pretty handily nearly every time they have teed it up together. But with Simpson’s prowess around this course and superb history, it seems gamers are trying to overlook that. Given his recent form and statistical fit, that line of thinking is not wise. Oosthuizen will end up winning this week and get his first-ever PGA Tour win in the process.

Will Zalatoris ($10,300 DraftKings/$11,500 FanDuel)

It has been best to take a wait-and-see approach with Zalatoris after his tough injury at the British Open. But his game looks to be in great shape, including his putter, gaining almost four strokes on the round last week. That is typically the crutch of his game, and since putting matters more this week than any other event on tour, it should give him confidence with it.

Matthew Wolff ($9,300 DraftKings/$10,700 FanDuel)

After a tumultuous year, Wolff has settled down since his two-month mental break. He sat out every tournament between the Masters and the U.S. Open but has competed in five events since. He has come in the top 20 twice and made four of five cuts. Last week he got back to low rounds as well, posting a 64 on a course that is harder than the one he will face this week. Those things plus the two made cuts here at Sedgefield and low ownership make him a great target this week.

Sebastian Munoz ($8,200 DraftKings/$9,700 FanDuel)

Charl Schwartzel ($8,100 DraftKings/$9,700 FanDuel)

Schwartzel made nine of his last 10 cuts since the Valero Texas Open, only missing out on the weekend at the PGA Championship. Over that stretch, he has piled up seven top-26s, including two top-fives and one in his last start. For Munoz, it is feast or famine. Over his previous 10 starts, he has three top-fives — second most in the field — but also has five missed cuts. Both come with mild ownership, so it should not take that much of the bankroll to get leverage this week.

Mito Pereira ($7,900 DraftKings/$9,500 FanDuel)

Fading Pereira has not worked, so why fight it? He has shown the ability to compete on the PGA Tour, and the only thing holding him back this week would be fatigue. He has a weaker-than-average field, and hopefully he can find a better-than-average putter this week.

Talor Gooch ($7,700 DraftKings/$9,600 FanDuel)

Gooch is ranked 61st in the FedEx Cup standings. A good week this week would assure him a top 70 spot and a trip to the BMW Championship for the first time in his career. The highlight is the fifth-place finish at the Players Championship. Dating all the way back to the Genesis Invitational, Gooch has only missed one cut (Valspar Championship) and has only finished outside the top 40 once in 12 starts. However, he only has one top-10 in that span as well, with a bunch of finishes between 14th and 36th. The upside is capped a bit but consistency is not, and with that he should be one of the safer plays on the slate.

PGA Picks Under $7,000 this week

Anirban Lahiri ($6,400 DraftKings/$7,400 FanDuel)

Sitting at a precarious 118th on the FedEx Cup Standings, Lahiri needs a big finish this week to move on with his season. His play of late has been better and even flashed for a few rounds in Tokyo before fading off a bit over the weekend. He has made the cut twice here and missed once, with a tie for 28th being his best finish.

Akshay Bhatia ($6,500 DraftKings/$7,000 FanDuel)

Living about an hour and a half away from the course, Bhatia will never feel more at home than he will this week. Plus, the pressure is off given that he has accumulated over 100 non-member FedEx Cup points this year, which is good enough to qualify him for the Korn Ferry Tour finals. From there he can do any number of things to get playing status on the professional tours.

Awesemo's Top Golfer Tool is an Ace Since golf performances are largely uncorrelated between one golfer and the next, aside from weather impacts, a good way to view a PGA DFS lineup is as a parlay, where you have to hit all 6 picks to hit. The Awesemo Top Golfer Tool gives you the probabilities that each golfer will finish top 6, as well as their 25%, 50%,and 75% results as a benchmark for how you can expect each golfer to perform at the tournament.
