East Coast golf has officially arrived as the PGA Tour heads to Florida for the Honda Classic. Florida courses are notoriously filled with water hazards and danger lurking all over the layout. The Players Championship is in a few weeks as well, which brings a massive opportunity for PGA One and Done pools. The Honda Classic is not a major tournament, but, like every week, it presents an opportunity to bank more dollars in the one and done pools and tournaments. There aren’t a ton of big-name golfers in the field, but there are still plenty of solid options for our PGA one and done picks this week.
PGA One and Done Golf Picks: 2022 Honda Classic
What is a One and Done pool?
A One and Done pool has some similarities with NFL survivor pools except that players cannot be eliminated early for making a poor pick. Each week players have to select one golfer, and their prize money earned that week become points for the player. The same player cannot be used twice, just like an NFL survivor contest, so strategy and knowing when to save a top-tier player can make the difference. At the end of the season, the team with the most cumulative earning earns a strong payoff. Pools will pay several spots, depending on it is size, similar to a GPP structure from DFS golf.
Genesis Invitational One and Done Recap
Rory McIlroy
There was some interest in Rory McIlroy last week, as he came into the event with some promising results over in Europe. He clearly has the game to contend anywhere, and Riviera provided him ample opportunity to lean on his strong off-tee game. Unfortunately, he could not fully connect the dots and finished tied for 10th for $303,000. That is not a bad result, but not having him available could be an issue come major season.
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele makes a ton of sense almost every week for One and Done. He has won in a long time, but he is consistently among the first page of the leaderboard and rarely gets cut. Last week he tied for 13th for $243,000 after Sunday, which is a decent yet disappointing result. There will be plenty of chances to use Schauffele in the future, and having him still available is a valuable asset.
Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has the game to handle Riviera, and after a monster charge on Sunday he found himself in contention. He was not able to catch wire-to-wire winner Joaquin Niemann, but Morikawa snuck into second just for north of a $1 million payday. That is a huge result for Morikawa backers, and considering Niemann was under 1% owned in most One and Done pools, this was the best selection of the realistic choices.

2022 Honda Classic PGA One and Done Golf Picks This Week
Sungjae Im
Those who have not used Sungjae Im were most likely saving him for the Florida swing. Now that it has arrived, he is the betting favorite at an event he has previously won. The field is not strong, and Im has shown he likes the setup at this event, so it is hard to dispute him being in the conversation this week. He will be popular, but this is normally his best stretch of the season, so he makes a lot of sense as a One and Done selection.
Daniel Berger
There is some concern with Daniel Berger’s health, but all indications are that he is good to go for the Honda Classic. If he plays, he is among the betting favorites at 16-1 and loves a technical type of track. He had a pair of top-10s early in 2022, and with the way he is hitting his irons, he is just a hot putting week away from contention. That is exactly the type of formula Niemann used last week to take down the Genesis.
Louis Oosthuizen
Louis Oosthuizen has been so close so many times to that PGA Tour win. He lives in Florida, and his game should translate to a track that rewards precise iron play and timely putting. Oosthuizen finished 14th a few weeks ago at the Waste Management and has some experience playing this event and course. Similar to Berger, he fits the mold of gaining on approach, not needing to be long off the tee and getting hot on Bermuda greens. This is as good of time as any for Oosthuizen to win, and there is no need to save him for later in the season.
2022 Honda Classic One and Done Golf Pick: Louis Oosthuizen
This course should fit Oosthuizen’s game nicely. Part of One and Done is evaluating positioning and balancing saving golfers and taking quality players each week. With a good start to the season, it makes sense to stick towards the top of the board and let other people make hero plays with riskier golfers. Oosthuizen has among the highest top-10 odds in this field and has only lost strokes tee to green once in a full calendar year. That type of consistency makes him a solid selection with potential for a nice return at a tough track.
