PGA DFS Picks & Ownership Projections for the U.S. Open on DraftKings & FanDuel

All of my PGA DFS picks, content and DFS golf ownership projections are geared toward providing information that will help you with all your DraftKings and FanDuel lineups and wagering decisions in the best way possible. This is the last of the week-long written material for the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, and now it’s FREE!

I am primarily a GPP PGA DFS player and enjoy making up to 450 different lineups. As such, these allocations are likely not exact, but they are targets for the mass-entry GPPs. If this is your first time reading it, let’s go over what you can find in it.

Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%.
Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely won’t have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. In this section, we’ll identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

That embrace and playing him over Hank Lebioda, the obvious pivot in that range, was the difference between 24th and second. My other five were very good and led to a positive week.

It is a perfect time to host an Open in sunny San Diego, with little wind and perfect temps all week expected. It will be man versus the golf course this week.

U.S. Open PGA DFS Picks | DraftKings and FanDuel

The Favorites

The return of Jordan Spieth is pretty astonishing, as he heads into the week as the second-highest-priced golfer on DraftKings. Inevitably, that will lead to lower ownership and force gamers to play overweight, especially in the $10 Millionaire Maker. Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay provide easy salary relief from Spieth but also come with three or four times the ownership. Pairing them together, however, should provide the variance needed.

Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel Larger Buy-In

Total expected player pool: 37
Expected number of lineups created: 25

As is typical with majors, the best players in the world are here and are typically filling the leaderboards. Getting the right combination of them is what it takes to win. This section will list the larger-dollar buy-ins by ownership from highest to lowest above 20% (or five lineups), followed by lineup fill-ins.

Jon Rahm ($11,200/$12,200): He will be joining the Major Champion Club after this week.
Xander Schauffele ($9,300/$11,400): A win has been bubbling and brewing for quite some time now, and it would be fitting for it to happen near his home.
Tony Finau ($8,900/$10,600): Finau could be in his worst form heading into a major, and yet he finds a way to get on the first page of the leaderboard. He has strong finishes in three of the last four majors, including an eighth at Winged Foot and Kiawah. That is good value for $8,900, especially in the $100 contest where one can win the lineup without it having to be optimal.
Jason Kokrak ($7,600/$9,400): Providing salary relief and upside, Kokrak has learned how to putt this year, and ball striking was never an issue. He has three straight top-30s at the Farmers Insurance, and given the variability of this event, that will do just fine this week.
Max Homa ($7,300/$9,000): Homa is going through an interesting stretch that is feast or famine, including four missed cuts and four top-10s. One of those was a win, and he is coming off his most recent top-10. Measuring him up against others in the area, he is worth being overweight on, which inevitably will lead to higher ownership.
Erik van Rooyen ($6,700/$7,800): Wilco Nienaber, van Rooyen’s younger and longer-hitting countrymate, seems to be getting all the buzz. However, it is better to play a more proven golfer who is a bit cheaper and has found himself inside the top 10 at a major before at very difficult, long courses.
Adam Scott ($7,400/$9,300): While Marc Leishman is the identical price on DraftKings, Scott makes a few more lineups since he provides more stability. At least, that has been the case long-term, even though Leishman has a win at Torrey Pines.
Tyrrell Hatton ($8,300/$10,200): He may not have played a lot of golf lately and may be terrible in majors. But Hatton has made the cut in the last two, finished 18th at The Masters, 38th at the PGA Championship and second last week, so his form appears to have broken through.
Sungjae Im ($7,600/$9,700): Play Im over Joaquin Niemann. Not much else has to be said.
Gary Woodland ($7,500/$9,100): Woodland’s ball-striking form has returned, but his putter hasn’t. If it does, the upside is there.
Wyndham Clark ($6,700/$7,500): Going down this low, the hope is to get four rounds and maybe an eagle out of him, and then pick the other five as perfectly as possible. It is either him or van Rooyen when stacking three or four above $9,000.
