Fantasy Football Sleepers: Awesemo’s Top Three Wide Receiver Sleepers

Over the past decade-plus, the NFL has evolved to become more of a pass-happy league. While a few years behind, fantasy football is taking similar steps, with PPR leagues being the choice scoring setting and wide receivers rising in value every year. Since the wide receiver position has more relevant players for fantasy than any other position, and we start more wide receivers because of this, it creates wide receiver sleepers that are overlooked in drafts.

Tired of the industry consensus and of the hot take machine? How about a data driven approach for a change? The world’s #1 daily fantasy player has put his projections talents to work, creating Awesemo’s first ever Fantasy Football Draft Kit. In it, users will receive access to:

There are many breakout pass-catchers every single season, so finding these wide receiver sleepers late in drafts can quickly set you down the right path for the rest of the fantasy season. Using Awesemo’s season-long rankings and consensus average draft position (ADP), these are the top three wide receiver sleepers for the 2020 fantasy season.

Awesemo’s Fantasy Football Sleepers: Top Three Wide Receivers

Danny Amendola, Detroit Lions

Awesemo Rank: 163 | ADP: 265

Just because Amendola does not make the flashy plays he used to doesn’t mean that he is irrelevant for fantasy. In fact, he finished with 62 catches for 678 yards and one touchdown in 15 games last season. This led to him being ranked WR49 at the end of the year. However, he is currently being drafted as WR85, making him one of the top sleepers.

The Lions struggled yet again last season, much of this due to quarterback Matthew Stafford being limited to eight games. Amendola was able to play in seven of those games. If we took his stats in those games with Stafford and extrapolated them out over 15 games, which is the total he played last season, he would have finished with roughly 66 catches for 805 yards and two touchdowns. This equals 158.5 fantasy points, which would have been good enough for WR42. Again, being drafted as WR85 is insultingly low. Amendola isn’t sexy but he is great value. He’s ranked #1 in Awesemo’s fantasy football sleepers tool among wide receivers, relative to his ADP.

More Fantasy Football Sleepers

James Washington, Pittsburgh Steelers

Awesemo Rank: 128 | ADP: 225

Washington was projected to have a breakout 2019 season, but those chances essentially went out the window when Ben Roethlisberger was injured. Not only do he and Roethlisberger have proven chemistry, Roethlisberger’s ability and willingness to launch the ball downfield would have fit the play style of Washington much better than whatever Mason Rudolph did last season.

Still, Washington finished with 735 yards and three touchdowns on an offense that was inconsistent at best. With Roethlisberger back, the potential is very high for Washington. If we do not get any preseason games, he won’t get the opportunity to put more flashy plays on film, which should keep his ADP low and help maintain his sleeper status. He’s ranked #2 in Awesemo’s fantasy football sleepers tool among wide receivers, relative to his ADP.

Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans

Awesemo Rank: 124 | ADP: 216

Davis was quickly overshadowed by rookie A.J. Brown last season. However, Davis now has a competent quarterback throwing him the ball in Ryan Tannehill. He has a powerful running game, which should draw defenders closer to the line of scrimmage. Davis is also finally no longer the lone focal point at wide receiver for defenses, which means he will likely not draw the top coverage week in and week out.

In other words, this season is shaping up to put Davis in the best opportunity he has been in as a pro. He finished with only 601 yards and two touchdowns last season, but he easily has the potential to be a solid WR3 for your fantasy team as he exploits what the defenses are now giving him. For someone going so late in drafts, it is a good value and it puts him on the sleeper radar. He’s ranked #3 in Awesemo’s fantasy football sleepers tool among wide receivers, relative to his ADP.
