Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: What Week 3 Quarterbacks Have Week-Winning Upside?

By dissecting each matchup for Week 3, we will see how it will positively and negatively impact each quarterback. Keeping tabs on the fantasy football rankings is crucial to know where players are rising and falling throughout the week at any given position. Here are the start and sit options for NFL Week 3 at the quarterback position.

Week 3 Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em: Quarterbacks

Must Start: Teddy Bridgewater – Denver Broncos (at New York Jets)

Bridgewater has started the season with three excellent matchups in a row. Facing the Giants and Jaguars has helped Bridgewater elevate his fantasy value, as he is currently QB11 and threw for 328 yards and a pair of touchdowns last week. This week against the Jets he should have another top-12 fantasy performance. Even without Jerry Jeudy, the Denver offense has not lost a step. Courtland Sutton appears to be returning to 2019 form.

Must Start: Tom Brady – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at Los Angeles Rams)

Brady has thrown nine touchdowns and over 650 yards in just two games, and he is currently QB3. Last week he completed 24 of 36 passes for 276 yards and five touchdowns against the Falcons. The Rams matchup is far from easy, but with the weapons of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rob Gronkowski, Brady has to start.

Must Start: Daniel Jones – New York Giants (vs. Atlanta Falcons)

There are always some risks when it comes to starting Jones since he turns the ball over so much, but there is also huge upside in starting him. Last week against the Washington Football Team Jones went 22-for-34 for 249 yards and a touchdown and ran for 95 yards and another touchdown. Right now jones is the QB4 in fantasy football, and this week’s matchup is excellent. The Falcons defense is as soft as it gets, so even with the turnover concerns, Jones can be started with confidence.

Must Sit: Joe Burrow – Cincinnati Bengals (at Pittsburgh Steelers)

Burrow has had far from an excellent start to the season, ranking 22nd right now. It is not due to having bad weapons, as Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are all solid. It is also not because of the running game, as Joe Mixon has taken a leap in the first two games. The biggest issue is the offensive line, and that will prove to be an issue this week against a strong Steelers front. Last week against a stout Bears defense Burrow had 19 completions on 20 attempts for 207 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. A solid fantasy season is still in the cards for Burrow, but this week he should sit on the bench.

Must Sit: Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. Arizona Cardinals)

Lawrence is playing as if he was not one of the highest-touted quarterback prospects ever. In two games Lawrence has just 50% completion and 450 yards passing, four touchdowns and five interceptions. Right now he is the QB26 in fantasy football. Things may turn around eventually, but as of now Lawrence is a fade.

Must Sit: Baker Mayfield – Cleveland Browns (vs. Chicago Bears)

Mayfield is a far better real quarterback than a fantasy quarterback. In real life he controls the game and makes few mistakes, but the Browns run far too much for Mayfield to have much value. On the season he is 40-for-49 for 534 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. This week Mayfield is without Jarvis Landry and possibly Odell Beckham Jr., and though the Bears have been worse defensively this year, this is not an ideal situation for Mayfield’s fantasy value.
