Jock MKT MLB DFS Picks Tonight
Zack Wheeler — P – Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies send Wheeler to the mound tonight in their most important game of the season, sitting two games behind the Braves for first place in the National League East. Wheeler has been fantastic down the stretch, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.14 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in four starts during the month of September. What is even more impressive is that he has allowed one run or fewer in each of those four starts.
According to Awesemo’s expert projections, Wheeler is the top-ranked player on the entire slate. Wheeler is 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 0.94 WHIP against the Braves this season, in addition to fanning 34 of their batters in only 26.2 innings of work. Perhaps he will get a longer leash tonight, with Philadelphia absolutely needing this game to stay in the NL East race. The Phillies bullpen can be volatile, so it is plausible Joe Girardi will try to get as many innings out of Wheeler as he possibly can.
C.J. Cron — 1B – Colorado Rockies
When looking for rising stock on a player, it is a bit of a cheat code to find players with the platoon advantage at Coors Field. Cron has been one of the better Rockies hitters in recent games, slashing .306/.352/.490 with six doubles over the last 12.
Tonight’s matchup against Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin is one of the best on the slate, according to Awesemo’s expert projections. Cron is slashing .318/.397/.597 against southpaws, compared to .261/.359/.503 against right-handed pitching. Corbin has been an absolute disaster this season, especially down the stretch, with nine hits allowed in three of his last five starts. Cron should be able to take advantage of that matchup and the one he will see later in the game against the National League’s worst bullpen (5.68 ERA). The Rockies also have the highest implied run total (6.1) of any team on tonight’s slate.
Bobby Dalbec — 1B/OF – Boston Red Sox
Dalbec is the perfect penny stock to invest in tonight considering he will get a matchup against Orioles left-hander Bruce Zimmermann and will likely be hitting in the lower third of the lineup. Dalbec has been much better against lefties this season, slashing .284/.333/.550 compared to .215/.282/.460 against righties.
Zimmermann will be making his first start (or appearance) since June 13, coming off the 60-day IL. He will not go deep into this game, and it is a mystery as to why the Orioles are even throwing him out there tonight. In any event, the Orioles bullpen has the worst ERA (5.79) in all of baseball. Dalbec has an extra-base hit in three of his last four starts. One thing that will not show up on the game log is how hard he has been hitting the ball in recent games, and he even had a home run robbed by Aaron Judge in Saturday’s game. This is a perfect buy-low opportunity on Dalbec in a great matchup, and the Red Sox have the second-highest implied run total (5.9) on tonight’s slate.
