Jacob deGrom: NYM at STL — DraftKings $11,100; FanDuel $12,500
Jacob deGrom takes his impeccable season start to Busch Stadium to battle the Cardinals. He continues to astound the world with his most impressive season to date thus far, notching a mind-blowing 15.17 K/9, .057 WHIP, 0.51 HR/9 and 0.82 FIP. DeGrom is averaging 38.8 DraftKings and 61.6 FanDuel points over five starts, and a matchup with the righty-heavy Cardinals has all potential to add to those fantasy totals.
Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives deGrom a 52.6% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and a 17.2% chance of being the top pitcher on FanDuel. deGrom’s MLB DFS point projections of 29.58 on DraftKings and 48.16 on FanDuel forecast him as the highest projected player on Tuesday. His price tag lowers his value a touch, and his MLB DFS ownership projections of 61.2% DraftKings and 40.7% on FanDuel make him the heavy favorite on Tuesday.
Slated to face seven righties and two switch-hitters, the Cardinals batting order heavily favors deGrom. He has blowtorched right-handed hitting for a 51.4% strikeout rate, just a 1.4% walk rate, and .125 average against with no home runs surrendered. Other than Nolan Arenado‘s .241 ISO off right-handed pitching over the past two seasons, not many other threats loom for deGrom in the St Louis order. The Cardinals are striking out against righties 24.5% of the time since last season and have a .313 on-base percentage. The matchup is a slipper fit for deGrom, and it becomes not so much a question of if you should play him but whether the game will happen play (scattered showers throughout the day in St Louis).

The Red Sox welcome the Tigers to Fenway, and Nick Pivetta takes the mound to open the series. Pivetta has found a niche in the Red Sox rotation, striking out 24% and allowing 1.25 WHIP and .174 average. Averaging 16.8 DraftKings and 30 FanDuel points over five starts this season, a homefield matchup with Detroit provides fantasy promise at a decent cost.
Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives Pivetta a 12.8% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and 5.9% top pitcher on FanDuel. Pivetta’s MLB point projections have as the slate’s third-best pitching option, and his MLB DFS ownership projections of 17.4% on DraftKings and 9.5% on FanDuel are relatively modest considering the wide berth of alternative options in his price range.
The Tigers will roll out a mixed bag of four righties and three switch-hitters. In 2019’s larger sample size, Pivetta had a 22.3% strikeout rate, 5.06 FIP and 1.86 HR/9 against righties. Facing lefties, he fared similarly, with a 1.54 WHIP and 5.91 FIP. The only evident threat looms late in the Tigers order with Akil Baddoo (eight), who has a .367 ISO off right-handed pitchers over 63 plate appearances in his first season in the majors. Priced for economy with a luxury matchup, Pivetta sheds ownership as a promising, low-cost option.

Huascar Ynoa: ATL at WAS — DraftKings $8,200; FanDuel $8,000
Huascar Ynoa draws the start on the road against the Nationals. Ynoa has been remarkable, averaging 20.52 DraftKings and 34.8 FanDuel points over five starts. His matchup in Washington makes for a worthwhile investment at a fair salary cost.
Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives Ynoa a 10.3% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and 4.9% of being the top pitcher on FanDuel. His moderate asking prices give him an 8.5% chance at a top-two value on DraftKings and a 3.5% top value on FanDuel. Ynoa’s MLB DFS ownership for 5.3% on DraftKings and 4% on FanDuel make him another candidate going overlooked by the field.
The Nationals have six righties and one switch-hitter in their order today. Ynoa has a 28.5% strikeout rate, 1.33 WHIP, 2.10 HR/9 and 4.72 FIP against fellow righties over his two seasons in the majors. Against left-handed hitters, he has struck out just 18.5%, though he surrenders fewer home runs. Lefty Kyle Schwarber (fourth) and switch-hitter Josh Bell (fifth) could pose trouble to Ynoa, each hitting over .262 ISO against right-handed pitching over the past two seasons. With a feasible price tag allowing for spending upon bats, Ynoa brings the fantasy ceiling necessary to win a slate without dragging a busload of ownership with him.
