Top Daily Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers | May 8

Tyler Glasnow: TB at OAK (Early Slate) — DraftKings $10,700; FanDuel $11,500

Tyler Glasnow draws the start for the Tampa Bay Rays on the road in RingCentral Coliseum to take on the Athletics. Glasnow’s currently boasting a 13.19 K/9 with a 38.2% strikeout rate and 17% swinging strike rate, .151 average against, 0.87 WHIP, 0.82 HR/9 and 9% walk rate while averaging 28.5 DraftKings and 48.14 FanDuel points in seven starts.

Awesemo’s expert MLB DFS projections have Glasnow for 25.22 DraftKings and 42.07 FanDuel points. With a five-digit price tag, Glasnow projects for a 2.52 value rating on DraftKings and a 3.66 value on FanDuel. Our MLB DFS ownership projections of 42.44% on DraftKings and 23.6% on FanDuel makes Glasnow an evident popular option on Saturday’s early slate but well worth besting the field.

Glasnow’s due to face six righties, two lefties and one switch-hitter from Oakland. Glasnow’s earned 13.86 K/9 and a 38.4% strikeout rate, 1.05 WHIP, and 1.09 HR/9 with a 12.1% walk rate against right-handed hitters, with similar numbers and lower walk rate against lefties. Trouble could present itself early in the order as Oakland lefty Matt Olson (third) is hitting a .221 batting average, .249 ISO, and 123 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers since the 2020 season. Oakland is swinging a .211 batting average and 23.7% strikeout rate, with a .303 on-base rate and 96 wRC+ against the split this season. Priced up at a premium, Glasnow’s having one of his best seasons by the numbers and provides an incredible ceiling for fantasy production against Oakland.

Ian Anderson: ATL vs PHI — DraftKings $8,900; FanDuel $7,900

The Braves continue their homestand against the Phillies assigning Ian Anderson to the mound Saturday evening. In Anderson’s second year in the Majors, he’s currently garnering a 9.82 K/9 and a 26.1% strikeout rate, 1.21 WHIP, 3.35 FIP, and 10.1% walk rate. While Anderson’s averaging 17.7 DraftKings and 31.83 FanDuel points in six starts, a strikeout-inclined Phillies team provides him an excellent matchup on Saturday.

Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool gives Anderson a 22.7% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and a 9.3% chance of being a top pitcher for FanDuel. Anderson’s priced perfectly on DraftKings projected as a 12.9% top-two value while a significant savings on FanDuel casts him a 6.9% top value. MLB DFS ownership projections of 29.7% on DraftKings and 26.1% on FanDuel indicate the popularity behind the frugality without requiring a heavy stand on investment.

The Phillies are scheduled to assign six righties and three left-handed hitters to their order. Anderson’s managed 9.38 K/9 with a 25.8% strikeout rate, .188 average against, 1.08 WHIP, and 0.58 HR/9 against right-handed hitters this season. In a larger sample size against left-handed hitters last season he earned 13.5 K/9 and a 36.6% strikeout rate, .145 average against, and 1.75 FIP. Philadelphia has regained its biggest threat in Bryce Harper, who’s hitting .290, .295 ISO, and 163 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers through last season. The Phillies are striking out 27% with a .140 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season, while a 16.3% HR/FB rate looms lethal. Anderson’s attention from the field may be disheartening but provided a perfect price with an intriguing matchup he remains a bargain on Saturday’s main slate.

Lance Lynn: CWS at KC — DraftKings $9,500; FanDuel $10,400

Lance Lynn looks to rebound to form following a fantasy dud in his return from the injured list. Besides his last start, Lynn has gone over 93 pitches in each start prior, averaging 25.5 DraftKings and 41.5 FanDuel points with a 10.58 K/9 and a 29.9% strikeout rate, 0.97 WHIP, and 4.1% walk rate in four starts. Though Kansas City has punished some pitchers, Lynn’s once-proven this season his talents plenty capable against these same Royals (48.3 DraftKings points on April 8).

Awesemo’s MLB Top Pitchers Tool projects Lynn a 28.7% chance of being a top-two pitcher on DraftKings and a 12.2% chance of being the top pitcher on FanDuel with favorable daily fantasy baseball projections. While a 13.9% top-two value pitcher on DraftKings, Lynn’s increased salary lands him as a 2.4% top value on that FanDuel. MLB DFS ownership projections forecasting 35.4% on DraftKings and 22.4% on FanDuel make Lynn a moderately invested selection for Saturday.

The Royals have an early scheduled lineup for five righties, three lefties, and one switch-hitter. Last season’s larger sample indicate similarities for Lynn’s splits, with 9.5 K/9 and a 24.7% strikeout rate, .229 average against, and 1.22 WHIP against right-handed hitting. The power in the Kansas City order remains daunting with Salvador Perez (fourth) smashing a .284 ISO off right-handed pitching, while the Royals have managed a .237 batting average and a 23.7% strikeout rate with a .311 on-base rate and 100 wRC+ against the split this season. While considerably expensive on FanDuel, the cost may shed ownership and provided a lofty fantasy ceiling Lynn makes for a great pivot option.
