Early-Slate MLB DFS Picks
San Francisco Giants vs. LHP Nick Margevicius – 5.0 implied runs
Just a reminder, this game is being played in Oracle Park with the Mariners as the designated home team, aka batting at the bottom of each inning. Margevicius has improved over last season’s disastrous rookie campaign with the Padres. However, we can still target him with several of the Giants batsmen.
Opposite-handed hitters have compiled a 1.48 HR/9 with a .195 ISO in 264 plate appearances against the lefty. Same-handed hitters have not been fooled at all, however, and they have tallied a 2.36 HR/9 with an eye-popping .308 ISO. Mike Yastrzemski has a career .285 ISO against fellow lefties, and most gamers are hesitant to go that direction. Evan Longoria and Wilmer Flores both have an ISO over .205 in their last 200 righty/lefty matchups. If Austin Slater is leading off, he is a fine option, and we can always consider Brandon Belt with the Seattle bullpen only having one southpaw. That, of course, makes sense when we remember that they have four lefties in their starting rotation.

Main-Slate Picks
Houston Astros vs. RHP Jordan Lyles – 5.2 implied runs
Today is a shorter six-game main slate with Thursday Night Football getting the featured role in the sports world. Check out Terry “TMcB” McBride’s Quick Hits article for his thoughts on Cleveland and St. Louis as stacking options.
Coors Field will serve as the true late-night hammer, so there is no need to alert you to those players. Instead, let’s turn our attention to the Astros, who disappointed everyone last night. Somehow they were shut out by Kyle Gibson, who allowed just four hits.
On tap today is a matchup with the 10-year veteran Lyles, who is pitching for his seventh franchise. Through 42.2 innings he has allowed a whopping nine home runs while issuing a free pass nearly every other inning. This has all led to an unsightly 7.81 ERA with a 1.64 WHIP. The last 520 lefties to face Lyles have accumulated a 1.52 HR/9, .200 ISO with an 11.4% walk rate. Same-handed hitters have been no picnic for him either with a 1.53 HR/9 and a .190 ISO.
On DraftKings, Jose Altuve and Michael Brantley remain ridiculously cheap. They are perfectly in play on the other sites as well. If it is a full stack you desire, then a combination of George Springer, Alex Bregman, Carlos Correa and Kyle Tucker will suffice. Josh Reddick and the often overlooked Yuli Gurriel are the differentiation options.
