Spotlight Hitters & Stacks for MLB DFS Lineups | 9/20 | DraftKings, FanDuel & Yahoo

Sunday, Sept. 20, has most gamers focused on NFL, but for those of us doing a little homework we have solid main slate for DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo and SuperDraft. Main-Slate Picks

New York Mets vs RHP Kyle Wright – 4.9 implied runs

While The Masses will not see this as a delicious matchup, going against Mr. Wright this season has been a successful endeavor at almost every turn. Across his six starts he has worked 25.0 innings and while the 20 strikeouts are decent, the 2.08 base runners allowed each inning mostly via 20 walks are not. The Metropolitans have been a top five team against right-handed pitching this season with a 122 wRC+. Wright’s half a dozen home runs allowed have been evenly split between righties and lefties.

On an NFL Sunday with the smaller contests and less content being produced, it is hard to believe people are going to consider the Mets. Particularly when the first thing that pops into mind when thinking of them is #LOLMets. Lefties Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto and Dominic Smith all have serious pop in their bats. Veteran Robinson Cano is putting together a solid performance in his age 37 season. From the right side of the plate of course Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis can round out our stacks. Jeff McNeil has had an uneven season, but he is fine for some DraftKings salary relief.

Afternoon-Slate Picks

Houston Astros vs. LHP Madison Bumgarner – 5.6 implied runs

How would you all like a chance to pick on a southpaw with the Astros, particularly one who has allowed 13 home runs in just 31.2 innings. Veteran lefty Bumgarner is in the midst of a disasters season. It has been so bad he actually has more home runs allowed than walks. This is year one of a five year $85M contract that the Diamondbacks would certainly like to forget. If Bumgarner were to pitch 200 innings and allow home runs at his current 0.4 per inning rate, he would have 80+ home runs allowed. That would two more than Matt Boyd who has allowed the most over the last two plus seasons.

Literally any righty that makes the lineup is in play and you can use Michael Brantley, Kyle Tucker and Josh Reddick as differentiation options as they can handle the lumber just fine in lefty/lefty situations.

Late-Slate Picks

Texas Rangers at RHP Julio Teheran – 4.4 implied runs

This is like the irresistible force versus the immovable object. The Rangers have been comically bad against right-handed pitching this season with a 66 wRC+. Weighted runs created plus is an advanced metric that neutralizes park factors creating a league-wide scoring efficiency baseline of 100. This means that Texas is scoring 34% less than the average team against righties this season. Yikes!

The 29-year old veteran Teheran is looking more like a 49-year old. Though he is not as awful as Bumgarner, he has allowed 10 home runs in 29.1 innings. In a fun twist, facing Texas on September 9th was one of two starts where the erstwhile ace did not allow a round-tripper. Of course in that game the Rangers plated five off of him and seven total for the game. I mention that because that is the second highest run total that Texas has tallied this year. Nine is there highest which they did one time and seven has been reached half a dozen times in their 52 games this season.

Now for the hard part, just who the heck do we target? Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor are the obvious choices. Willie Calhoun is cheap and he has some power. Nick Solak and Isiah Kiner-Falefa are slap hitters who seemingly never get the ball out of the infield, but they are discount dandies who should at least get on base.
