UFC Vegas 258: Usman vs. Burns Post Weigh-In Analysis

Usman vs. Burns

Kamaru Usman is in fantastic shape. When Usman weighed in, he “missed” weight due to his heavy-duty mask. Once Usman removed his mask, he made championship weight as expected. Gilbert Burns made weight easily, and our main event is official. I was surprised to see so much intensity between these two, as they are former training partners and good friends. Neither man wanted to back down from the face-off or break eye contact. This should be a good one.

Grasso vs. Barber

Both Maycee Barber and Alexa Grasso looked fine on the scale and were ready to go in the stare-down.

Gastelum vs. Heinisch

Ian Heinisch is a big guy for the middleweight division, with an impressive physique. Kelvin Gastelum has struggled with weight cutting over the years and is an undersized middleweight. Gastelum looked soft, but he has never really impressed on the scale. Gastelum looks focused on his opponent, and both he and Heinisch were intense in the stare-down.

Green vs. Miller

Jim Miller, in true veteran fashion, made weight without an issue. Bobby Green uncharacteristically was the last fighter to weigh in and looked rough on the scale. Green apparently passed out backstage following the weigh-ins, and this bout will now be canceled.

Marquez vs. Pitolo

Julian Marquez was so happy to return, he might have stolen the show with his energy. He flexed while displaying two copies of the UFC 4 video game, which he is raffling off via social media. Maki Pitolo is a smaller middleweight, but he is in good shape. As expected, Pitolo looked like an undersized middleweight against Marquez.

Vieira vs. Hernandez

Anthony Hernandez did not look strong on the scale, but he has never had an impressive physique. Rodolfo Vieira looks like a monster for the weight class. He looks so strong and fit compared to Hernandez.

Muhammad vs. Lima

Belal Muhammad is in phenomenal shape and looks strong. Dhiego Lima, in typical fashion, looked fine on the scale with a lean physique. Muhammad brought the intensity to the stare-down.

Martin vs. Viana

Mallory Martin looked fine on the scale, but he might have cut a decent amount of weight. Polyana Viana looked long and lean on the scale. This is a volatile fight.

Gutierrez vs. Ewell

Andre Ewell was the second fighter on the scale, coming in very happy and energetic. Ewell looked good on the scale and weighed in at 138.5 pounds, under the catchweight limit. Chris Gutierrez looked like a bantamweight that did not cut much weight. The height and reach advantage for Ewell was clear in the stare-down.

Simon vs. Kelleher

This fight is up a weight class, but Simon and Kelleher looked good on the scale. Simon had more definition, but these guys are always in great shape.

Rowe vs. Green

Philip Rowe is a very long-framed fighter for the division and came in impressive shape. Gabe Green is a compact fighter, but he looks very strong and fit. The massive height and reach advantage for Rowe was evident.

Maverick vs. Robertson

Gillian Robertson was the first fighter to step on the scale, and she looked healthy. Miranda Maverick looks strong for the weight class. This is a big step up in competition for Maverick, but she seemed unfazed in the face-off.
