In NBA DFS and daily fantasy basketball as a whole, it is not as simple as rostering who we think the best play is. We have to consider the odds each individual player has of going off or busting. NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Boom Candidates

Tyrese Maxey vs. Hawks: $5,200/$4,700

62.4% DraftKings Boom/61.6% FanDuel Boom

This is the highest boom rating I can remember seeing for any player this season. Maxey is an absolute lock in cash games because of his expected role tonight. With the 76ers dealing with COVID issues and Ben Simmons out because of a knee injury, Maxey looks poised for a big game. Drawing the first start of his career over the weekend, Maxey played 44 minutes with a usage rating north of 30%. He scored 39 points and over 60 DraftKings points. Philadelphia has no choice but to give its first-round pick a massive role with the team so shorthanded.

Joel Embiid vs. Hawks: $9,800/$9,700

36.8% DraftKings Boom/51.5% FanDuel Boom

I like Embiid for many of the same reasons I like Maxey. The 76ers are only expected to have eight active players tonight, which forces Embiid to carry the offense and play a massive role. Philadelphia is down three of its regular starters with Simmons, Tobias Harris and Seth Curry all out. This should lead to Embiid putting up a big usage rate. When Simmons and Harris were off the court last season, Embiid had a 37.8% usage rate and scored nearly 60 DraftKings points per 36 minutes.

Chris Paul vs. Wizards: $7,200/$6,900

25.8% DraftKings Boom/41.8% FanDuel Boom

I have not rostered Paul nor Devin Booker much this season. With the two ball-dominant guards sharing the court together, they are cutting into each other’s fantasy production. Usage drops for both combined with less playmaking responsibility is making the two less viable as NBA DFS options. The good news here is that we finally have a price drop. Paul is cheap enough that it offsets his decreased role. This is also a great matchup against a banged-up Wizards’ team that ranks 28th in defensive efficiency while playing at the fastest pace in the league.

NBA DFS Picks: DraftKings + FanDuel Bust Candidates

Jrue Holiday vs. Magic: $7,600/$6,900

67.8% DraftKings Bust/65.7% FanDuel Bust

The players for the Bucks are priced up after Giannis Antetokounmpo sat out last game. The problem is that Giannis is expected to play today. He is now listed as probable, which makes the other guys on the team too expensive. As is, Holiday is struggling to integrate himself into the Bucks’ offense, and his fantasy production has taken a step back from what he did last season for the Pelicans.
