NBA DFS Picks: Prime Time Players
Bradley Beal: Washington Wizards at Charlotte Hornets
DraftKings $9,300, FanDuel $9,700, Yahoo $42 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 31.0%, FanDuel 38.1% Yahoo Fantasy 38.4%
We have two excellent choices at the top and there are ways to play them both if you desire. The Wizards do not play again until Saturday, so it would be no surprise to see Beal approaching 40 minutes once again. This is a very winnable game for Washington, who could really use one. They are favored by a bucket on the road and this game has the highest implied point total at 228.5 points. When these two squads squared off in Washington three weeks ago, the Wizards dropped the hammer 125-118 in the first meeting of the season.
By now you all know that Washington has the worst defensive efficiency in the league, but did you know that Charlotte is third? Bradley Beal has not been putting the biscuit in the basket efficiently over the last few games, but that should change soon. This is the type of matchup where we could see a foray over the 50-fantasy-point plateau.
Jimmy Butler: Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks
DraftKings $9,100, FanDuel $9,600, Yahoo $44 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 32.9%, FanDuel 39.1% Yahoo Fantasy 37.2%
Our alternative option for tonight is going to be Jimmy Butler. Again, we can pair Beal and Butler, but that may leave us on the outside looking in with regards to frontcourt options. Goran Dragic and Justise Winslow are both out again, so that bodes well for Butler’s fantasy prospects. This is the third time these teams have played this year. Over his last four games with the thinned Heat roster, Butler has been magnificent. In this stretch, he is averaging 39.8 minutes with 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 2.0 combined blocks/steals and two triple-doubles.
It would not be a surprise for Butler to mess around again in the box score. Miami will be off until Friday so we should definitely see Jimmy Minutes tonight. The only fear is Atlanta potentially not keeping this game close.
NBA DFS Picks: Good Value
Miles Bridges: Charlotte Hornets vs. Washington Wizards
DraftKings $5,100, FanDuel $5,400, Yahoo $17 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 26.6%, FanDuel 24.2% Yahoo Fantasy 21.8%
We need some discount dandies, so why not look to one in a fantasy friendly environment? Marvin Williams is doubtful and the Wizards play small, so that bodes well for Miles Bridges. Affectionately I refer to Bridges’ style of play as a “garbage man,” which is a term from my old high school coach. Basically, this means that Bridges probably doesn’t have any designed plays, but he gets hustle stats and fills the lane. In a game like this, he could get a fantasy point per minute. That is pure gold on a four-game slate for his current price point.
NBA DFS Picks: Risky Value
Derrick Jones Jr: Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks
DraftKings $3,600, FanDuel $3,500, Yahoo $10 Ownership Rating (preliminary run): DraftKings 23.3%, FanDuel 21.1% Yahoo Fantasy 14.4%
Just a reminder, risky value does not mean this is a bad play. However, there is a chance that Derrick Jones Jr. does not even come close to breaking the slate tonight. In the six games he has played more than 15.5 minutes, he is averaging 19.5 minutes, 6.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.5 combined blocks/steals for 13.3 fantasy points. That works out to about 0.67 fantasy points per minute. Let’s say he matches his 26.5 minutes of the last two games. Doing some quick math, that is 17.9 fantasy points. That is something to keep in mind for tonight.
There are only eight teams taking the court tonight, so the edge will be more elusive than ever. Be sure to tune into Live Before Lock with Fast Eddie Fear at 6 p.m. EST for your last minute analysis.
