Week 5 of the NFL is, and Awesemo has a ton of great tools and [main page link sport=”nfl” link=”19″] to help you tackle all the largest contests in DFS. This article will take you through and highlight some of the week’s highest projected Yahoo NFL picks at each position on the Week 5 main slate, all based on Awesemo’s projections and models. We will also provide insight into rostership projections and provide some other matchup information for optimal Yahoo NFL picks for daily fantasy lineups each week.
Week 5 Yahoo NFL Picks, Grades & Values
Top Graded QB: Kyler Murray | Grades: A, Values: C
Kyler Murray heads into Week 4 off a dominant win over the Rams where he completed 75% of his passes and added 39 yards on the ground. He has an exceedingly better matchup against San Francisco in Week 5 too as the 49ers have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks thus far and over 7-yards per carry to quarterbacks on the ground. The Cardinals have the fourth-highest implied team total at 27.25 but with Trey Lance now starting, more turnovers and downfield plays could be on the card for the 49ers, which gives this game a better chance of shooting out. Murray is again the top projected quarterback on Awesemo, with an over 4-point edge in the projections over the next-highest-rated quarterback on the main Sunday slate. With his salary the same as last week, there is no reason to get off him.
Top Value QB: Daniel Jones | Grades: B, Values: A
Daniel Jones stands out this week as a screaming value in the Awesemo projections this week. Jones is coming off one of the best performances of his career when he threw for over 400 yards against a New Orleans defense that had been one of the toughest pass defenses in the league. This week he faces a Dallas squad who has allowed the most yards passing against through four weeks. The game is a great for targeting in fantasy (52.5 over/under) and teams have thrown the ball 42.5 times against Dallas this season (second-highest mark in the league). Price is also a huge factor, as Jones is only $25, which has him as the best value of anyone above $25 on Yahoo this week. He will be a trendy pick, but everything says take the discount and look to differentiate elsewhere.
Top Graded RB: James Robinson | Grades: B, Values: B
The Jaguars and Titans meet this week in a matchup of two of the weaker defenses in the NFL. Teams are averaging over 27 points per game against Tennessee this year (same with the Jaguars), and the Jaguars play at the league’s second-fastest pace. James Robinson has finally been unleashed as the bell cow in Jacksonville and comes in having taken over 20 touches in each of his last two games. He is not only taking carries now but also got snaps when the Jaguars were down big against the Cardinals two weeks ago (six receptions on seven targets), so game flow should not be an issue. Price is major factor too, as Robinson has the fourth-highest projection at running back on this slate but remains well under $30. With his workload intact in a what should be a great game environment, do not be afraid to target Robinson again despite the Jaguars being 4-point underdogs.
Top Value RB: Damien Williams | Grades: B, Values: A
Despite Damien Williams being RB1 against a weak Raiders run defense, there does not seem to be much interest from the DFS community in rostering him (under 7% projected rostership). That could be a mistake, though, as Williams rates highly in the Awesemo projections this week, with the 12th-best Yahoo projection at running back. Twelfth best may not scream smash play, but Williams also costs just $18. Williams looked spry against Detroit last week, averaging 6.8 yards per carry on eight carries, and he faces a Las Vegas defense that has allowed 4.9 yards per carry this year (fourth worst in the league). He is a great value target for Yahoo rosters this week.
Top Graded WR: Davante Adams | Grades: A, Values: C
The Bengals and Packers square off in a game that features an under-the-radar 51.5 over/under and a close point spread. The Bengals defense has been stout against the run, allowing just 3.26 yards per carry ,and running back Aaron Jones is also banged up, having practiced in a limited capacity all week. Enter Davante Adams, who not only tops out the Awesemo projections at wide receiver this week, but now appears to have a great matchup against a Bengals team that has allowed big games to other possession receivers like Adam Thielen and Laviska Shenault. Adams is trending with some rostership, but this game is not getting as much heat as others, making him a great way to exposure to the Green Bay offense (26.75 implied team total in Week 5) at a reasonable price.
Top Value WR: Jakobi Meyers | Grades: B, Values: A
The Patriots enter Week 5 as 9-point favorites against the Texans and have a 24.5 implied total. Jakobi Meyers has played on over 90% of the snaps in every game and leads the team in targets by a whopping 17 (he is averaging over 10 targets a game). This is all to say that his $13 price tag on Yahoo is not just too low, it is absurdly low and makes him the second-best pure value receiver play on Yahoo. The great news is that his DFS rostership is still projected at well under 10%, so Meyers can still offer differentiation from the field.
Top Graded TE: Darren Waller | Grades: A, Values: C
The tight end position on the main slate could be excruciatingly thin, as Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews are in prime time, while George Kittle (questionable) may not even play. While he may end up being one of the chalkiest plays of the slate, taking the easy play on Darren Waller could be a great way to punish opponents if he hits a ceiling game. Waller is the clear target leader on the Raiders and has an Awesemo projection that is 4 points higher than the second-place player at his position. The matchup against slower-paced Chicago does not sound ideal, but the lack of trustworthy options on this slate means the palatable $23 price on Waller is still preferable.
Top Value TE: Cameron Brate | Grades: C, Values: A
Paying down at tight end is always an adventure, which is why it is important to take advantage when players get bigger opportunities due to injury or other factors. Cameron Brate is in just such a situation, as he is essentially acting as the main pass-catching tight end for a team that throws more than 46 times per game (the most in the NFL). With Rob Gronkowski out last week, Brate was the only tight end on Tampa Bay to catch a pass (six targets), and he gets to face a Dolphins team that has been much worse at covering over tight ends over the middle of the field and in the red zone (three touchdowns allowed to tight ends in 2021). With Tampa slated for a 29 team total (third highest on the slate), Brate makes for a great pay-down option on Yahoo at just $10.
